Finding camping gaz for English motorhomes in Spain (1 Viewer)

We are currently on France / Spain border at Puigcerda in Pyrenees. We need to refill our propane gaz bottle but both the French and Spanish bottles are incompatible with our UK connector. Any suggestions welcome for how to resolve this. We can't find a motorhome specialist in this area. We are driving to Santander via Tudela.

It depends on what you have, presumably not refillable, if you have the space propane gas bottles are available at supermarkets in France for low or no deposits.

Intermarche sell 9k propane for €18.99 +€1 deposit, the fitting is the same as for UK 4.5k butane, pigtails are available in the Bricomarche or other DIY supermarkets. The bottles are the same diameter as UK bottles but not as high.

You will need to find a French regulator from their B&Q type shops and fit it to your hose.
You can get a gas bottle contract with any of the supermarkets and buy a butane bottle to fit your MoHo. (we use Super U.)
We carry both UK and French Tee'd together.

Have you completely by passed the bulkhead regulator in your set up? I see that both bottles have bottle top regulators, If the OP has a bulkhead regulator he will need a suitable pigtail, if not then the regulator that you have will be needed.

Do you really mean "refill" or do you mean swop? Are you bottles calor or are they refillables such as Gaslow or Gasit?

If you have Calor they can only be bought in the UK, so your choices are limited. As others have said you can buy a French bottle in French supermarkets, but they are not compatible with your UK pigtail hose (assuming that you have a bulkhead regulator). You will therefore need to replace your UK pigtail hose (the one from the bottle to the regulator) with one that fits the French bottle. Again these are often available in French supermarkets.

Not an option in France or the UK, some people buy adaptors off ebay to enable this but it is considered an unsafe practice and most garages will not allow it, indeed some will not allow the refilling of refillable bottles without an external filler point.

Nope-Your only option is to get a French bottle and regulator. Or get a MoHo dealer to fix you up with the regulator.

Thank you all for the sound advice. All sorted. Bought a new lead and regulator for 30 euros and now using French gas bottle. deposit to be refunded from intermarche when we leave france. Tony D
