Hi all, after 10 years tugging a caravan a couple of months each year mainly around France and following many months of research we finally decided to switch and buy our first motorhome.
Lots of info gleaned from this site and thought it wouuld be good to officially join the fun.

Hi Mike and Kim

Welcome, Burstner 724(y) does that have a garage? what are you doing for transport as that always seem to be the bit that tuggers are not sure about.

Now book some Fun meets and rallies.

I also switched from towing a caravan for 30 years, I would never go back. Traveling is much more relaxed in a motorhome, don’t need to worry about being overtaken or overtaking HGV’s. But the best part I’ve found is you can just get in it and go and if you get to your site and it’s raining, as you’re all self-contained you don’t have to go outside till it stops. I'm sure you will love it.

Hi, From one recent ex-tugger to another - Welcome. We came over to the dark side last September, brought the motorhome one week and spent 3 weeks in France the next week.
Bit strange at first- not having to go through the normal set up routine, and also not being able to "just jump in the car" Solved that now, purchased a couple of electric bikes, Off to germany first week of June, can't wait....
You will love it (y)(y)(y)

Hi Martin, yes the 724 has a decent size garage, that was one of our priorities.
Most our holiday time is in France, we usually get away for June and Sept. they are far more suitable with aires and many more sites near the towns and atractions.
If we end up at one place for long we can also hire a car for a few days.
Will see later regarding some meets and rallies

by co-incedence.. we were considering crossing back

still pondering the pros and cons..

Yes both have pros and cons, depends which countries and style of touring you are looking at doing.
Just hoping that the quality of build is better than the appauling uk caravan industry that we encountered.

A lot of UK built motorhomes are just as bad, you made the right choice buying German.

indeed.. having done both on and off for donkeys years .. it's a hard choice.

For me the biggest stumbling block is not being able to use aires in France or Stelplatz in Germany.. and out of season few sites are open abroad.. plus having to use camping sites makes it more expensive when touring.. which I have also done abroad with a caravan..

As for quality , much as I hate saying it, would only ever buy a German marque .. be it caravan or motorhome .

I love the Eriba, we had a Puck many years ago.. and quite fancy another Eriba with a washroom like the Triton.. Hymer caravans are also on the short list

Present van is 2001 Hymer B644 garage model.. and we love it and it would be hard to part with.. probably the best motorhome we have owned..

Thanks NN, hopefully we will have very few if any problems.
Our last caravan was a new top of range model that needed the complete rear panel replaced 3 times in 3 years plus many other issues. You soon fall out of love and life too short to dwell.
Have had one long weekend away, strangly enough not far from you at Swaffham, first lesson was learnt after having to be towed from pitch.
Really looking forward to going further afield very soon.

Welcome! Never crossed that great divide. We bought a motorhome to see if we liked it..... and we did. Tugging isn’t for us.
