Getting better
With the political pressure mounting regarding Nox levels in our cities we all need to brace ourselves for change. The rush to diesel is over and shown to be a blind alley visited by the Europeans. The Japanese and Americans where not taken in and stuck with gasoline. Yes diesel produces lower CO2,but it is now shown to kill some of us as well. Cars will move towards petrol and hybrids, vans like ours will probably still use diesel but smaller engines with loads of clean up kit and restrictions on inner city use.
Change is coming and will be problematic for all, nothing is easy anymore.

Our Exis has 2.3 150 Euro5 engine and has plenty of torque and powerful enough for towing it runs alon really smoothly probably need to use the gears slightly more when towing but that's to be expected.

Fiat started of with the right idea with the Beast of Turin, but seem to have lost there way in later years. An early Fiat engine once held the record for the fastest thing on earth over a flying mile.

Did I see that the new engine is only rated for 4.4 ton loads? What about all the tag axle vans rated above this? Are Fiat limiting their market? Doesn't seem to make any sense!

It may well be the case, most complaints about remapping seem to be clutch failure on tag axle vans.

If true it reflects what a number of other manufacturers are doing - making smaller more efficient engines with the same power output as their larger predecessors.
It certainly seems it's the way things are going .......
My son recently bought a new Volvo V40 with 2.0 litre engine and aparently Volvo cars have a choice of petrol or diesel engines but ALL ranges are now only 2.0 litre with extra power gained from single or twin turbos.

Just rang a carthago dealer in the UK I was told I could only have the carthago chic on a 2.30 180bhp not doing 3.0 anymore may have to start looking for a merc or look for older stock.

I recollect as a young boy seeing a Gardner Engine being started up and running whilst out of a "Lorry" on the ground to prove it was all good to te chap looking to buy it.

In the days when I was exporting them, the buyers would often come and pick a couple to be started on the ground before payment. I never had one that would not start, even those with the odd piston missing would fire up . I am still contacted now for the supply of old Gardners, alas the heyday has gone :(.

Its just nice to reminisce you mentioned Gardeners and my mind went back to that day, I doubt anyone under 60ish would believe that this sort of thing was done and quite normal.

Just stick a Ford 2.3 ecoboost in them, more power, more torque, more m.p.g. & similar / less NOx emissions & less P.M. - job done :)

LPG is the answer, mot results from my 8.1L CO. Limit 3.50% actual 0.00 HC. Limit 1200ppm actual 260ppm

It looks as if Fiat may be about to discontinue the 3.0 litre engine in favour of a 2.3 litre unit with the same power output. The Fiat website still shows a 3.0 engine but it is described as Euro 5+ but the new Euro 6 engine may not come in this size.

If true it reflects what a number of other manufacturers are doing - making smaller more efficient engines with the same power output as their larger predecessors. Ford were one of the first taking this route I think.
WV too they replaced the 2.5 to a 2.0ltr with a common rail system had more bhp and better everything else.

Don't forget that most fairgrounds are powered by Gardner engines for their generators, clocked several million miles, if on the road.

The parent company IVECO are still producing a Euro 6 3.0L which produces 205hp. Maybe not needed in all but the largest motorhomes.
Ford Euro 6 are now 2.0L and it looks like Peugeot and Citroen will use them.

205 hp from a 3 litre engine. Its not so long ago I used to drag well over 32 tons around with less hp than that from a 10 litre engine. Mind you, they were good for over a million miles before you had to put a spanner on em.

Aha, but the captain of a Chinese junk thought he had a speedboat once one was fitted. None of that waiting around for the wind to blow :).

I bet the V10 was nice and quiet too??? I said, I bet the V10 was nice and quiet too??:LOL:

The Ford Euro 6 2.0L produces 168hp with 405Nm. against the Fiat 2.3 at 180hp with 400Nm.
These new diesel engines certainly pack a punch for small units. In 10 years time it could be a 1 litre engine producing the same output?
