just arrived in alps with a flat tyre, if you have not actually tried accessing spare suggest you try, involves plenty of crawling under van on floor!
Guy from garage couldn’t get van raised with fiat jack ended up with a trolley jack which I can’t fit under the passenger seat!
A real eye opener in not a good way

When I had a completely flat tyre I had to drive that wheel up onto a kerb in order to get the clearance underneath for my jack.

Already aware which is why I had our spare wheel put into the garage of the motorhome
Plus not that easy to crawl under the van at the best of times

Yep especially in the snow at -6

Keep mine in garage after I had flat on last motorhome. I have been considering buying one of those exhaust driven bag jacks, easy to store and are virtually flat to get under axle. Anyone tried these?

When we bought our Autosleeper it had a spare wheel. I thought I would test how easy or hard it was to get the spare wheel off, but couldn’t uncouple it from the cable.
Luckily, we didn’t have a puncture in the 3 years we owned it.
Our new van has a can of gunge and a pump. If we get a flat, I’ll call out the garage to do it.

its hard enough replacing a wheel in the comfort and reletive safety of my drive let alone road side.

for that reason my tyres are filled with " puncture safe"...... (y)

i'll duck now...

Mine is handily stored in between the double floors and easy to access unlike my Frankia which was slung underneath

Another star for hymer

Yes wonderful things years ago & cheap.

Not an easy job that's why we have European recovery, when we had a flat in Nederland s we made a phone call. It was on a Saturday afternoon when Holland is shut but didn't apply as it's part of the 24/7 policy so on our way again in37 mins. Well worth it

We also do not have a spare so plan to do as Allan. Don't fancy laying on the side of a motorway trying to replace a wheel, thanks :)

its a good idea to get your spare wheel taken off from time to time when your van is being MoT'd is as good a time as any and getting the gubbings greased up. Ours was absolutely solid BUT luckily (or should that be 'sensibly') we had it checked when the mechanic had easy access to it - I wouldn't have got it off myself at the side of a road and any mobile mechanic might have had the same issues ! we never did have to get it off, but just knowing it wouldn't be too hard is another tick off the box when driving around !

2011 Pug Boxer (same as Ducato & Relay) I decided to try getting the spare down when parked on my drive. Once I'd worked out how, it was pretty easy

But, whilst jacking up the front is easy with the suppled jack, there was no way it would jack up the rear

I carry a repair'n'air type cannister in the hope that, in the rare event of a puncture, I can use that to get me somewhere safe for a proper repair

As a Biker, despite puncture repairs being legal, I wouldn't have a tyre repaired, I would always replace with a new one

So what do people use? My 2004 Ducato came without a jack or a wheel brace (unless it is cunningly hidden and I have yet to find it. I bought a bottle jack and extendable wheel brace, but I am not convinced either is up to the job! I would be very happy to hear what anyone else has found will work.

I would also like a recommendation for a portable jack. At home I have a trolley jack, but it's a bit bulky to keep in the van

I use a 6 tonne bottle Jack and a breaker bar

Its the best back to use

Scissor jacks are a bit iffy and trolley jacks for the right weight are too bulky.

Thanks for that @Northernraider do you know the max & min height for the jack you use?
I don't off hand you'll find them on eBay though with all the specs. Certainly more than enough to get the wheel clear of the ground. Think it was less than £20 including delivery
