Simonstone Brislington gone without warning.

That's going to be a problem for me and other Funsters in the Bristol / Bath / North Somerset area. Where to go now, to get our Ducato MHs serviced, and recalls done?

More of a problem for anyone who,s paid a deposit on a car but not picked it up!

Yes it is sad for the 80 who lost their jobs especially at this time. Their service department were always helpful.

It is a big site. I hope another company will take on the FIAT franchise and re-open at the same place. A merger is taking place between FIAT Chrysler and PSA. Who knows how that will affect their respective franchised dealerships.

Round the corner we have a local independent commercial vehicle workshop that does vans as well as HGVs but I suspect might not have access to the FIAT computer intranet. I am wary because I witnessed a careless lad (possibly one of their fitters) scrape a van against the front bumper of a HGV tractor unit while manoevering the van in the yard. It seemed like he hoped nobody had noticed.

I have used Hutton’s nr Weston Supermare, they serviced and looked after recalls very professionally for some years.
There is a lovely cafe/craft place you can while away a bit of time at while the Fiat is being cared for, or you can catch a bus to Weston or even better to West Country Motorhome for a browse around.

Reading the article I am surprised the employees handed over their company cars.

I think I would have told my boss to get stuffed.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago and the leasing company when I told them I was 400 miles from home told me to take it to the nearest dealership and get a bus. Needless to say I new that the car did not have a tracker so I told them to 'find it' and they could send their collection staff out to get it once I was home.
I checked with the company insurance as it was fleet insured and the insurance was valid. (It took me a week to get home) and the fuel tank was fumes. When companies go under without warning it can be very distressing no matter what time of year, The company I work have put us all on 45 day 'consultation' with redundancies in January. But at least Bristol is a thriving city so the staff will find alterative employment I'm sure. |Good luck to them all

I took mine to Huttons at Bleadon just outside Weston super Mare on the recommendation of mikebeaches . Very impressed with service and knowledge. They do a lot of MHs and are Fiat dealers. Bus stop outside for a day out in Weston and fish and chips for lunch!

edit: just read your post dipsie, I wrote mine this morning and then camehome just now to find I hadn’t pressed “post”. Happy to read that you too are pleased with Huttons.

Thanks for all your replies.

I will give Huttons a try when the service and MOT are due. From the photos on their website it looks like a nice place. (y)

I remember many years ago one of my customers who operated a fleet of Renault Magnums went bust. Most of his 15 trucks were either heading to Italy or heading home. The drivers were all self employed and leased the trucks from the operator. Some brought them home, 6 were found abandoned at various airports but 4 have never yet been found.

Thanks for the heads-up - I'm sorry to read about Simonstone, even though I haven't used them.

Sounds as though it could get even busier at Hutton's! But to be fair, I've never had a problem getting booked in there.

I was just browsing the forum Camping-Car infos and there is a thread about the FIAT dealership network getting smaller in France and Belgium. Posters complaining that their local FIAT Professional agent has closed so they need to travel far to find one where they can get their C-C serviced. Some go to IVECO agents.

What is going on? :xsurprised:

I used them for a couple of years, without complaint, but as I am in North Bristol, and with the Severn Bridge now free, mine goes to the independent Fiat garage in Chepstow. Reasonably priced. Sorry for the loss of jobs though.
