If the needle is always visible surely actually reading the numbers behind it is irrelevant? The position of the needle is all that's needed once familiar with the vehicle. If more is needed then a few white adhesive dots on the face of the instrument would do the job. I can't read any scale on any of my instruments without reading glasses.
