Hi all does anyone have a new van with the 9 speed auto box? Just want to check a few things ours has now done 150 miles but from the start it’s been a bit strange, if you put it into D shortly after starting and you sit there waiting to pull of the van jolts a few times? The lights on the gear selector flash on and off randomly when it feels like it but it does seem to settle down after a few minutes until you stop again then there’s the old flash. Is this normal, does it just need to settle in or is there a problem.

Thanks

My ZF9 gearbox is faultless & doesn’t do any of the things yours does

unlike my comformattic, I had to change vans to get rid of it after breaking down every time I used it

Doesn’t sound right. I have the same manufacturer ZF 8 speed ‘box on a 4x4 pickup with 70k miles on it. It’s never been anything other than flawless, and so smooth it’s difficult to detect gear changes other than by watching the rev counter needle dipping when it happens.

As above, I have the 9 speed auto in my 2021 Benimar and don’t experience any of the symptoms the op describes.

I too have the 9 speed auto on my Elddis CV20 ,runs smoothly and none of your symptoms. Good luck.

It sounds from your description that the selection switch unit is not adjusted properly. It will need taking back for repair.

I don’t have any of those on my Autosleeper Kingham. It’s a nice smooth gearbox

Definitely no issues like that......... Not going to tempt providence by mentioning how well it appears to work.

Same on our CV20, had comfortmatic on previous Adria twin ,was very clunky , new box is smooth and responsive .

Like all of the above, I’ve the same gearbox in my 2021 Carado and it’s as sweet as a nut!
Would never go back to manual box.
Hope you get it sorted out ok 👍

I have the new 9sp Fiat pvc on order ( although delivery date keeps getting pushed back) ZF are arguably the best auto gearboxes in the world and fitted to dozen of different cars, also buses, hgv's, jcb's etc.
My existing PVC has the wonderful 6sp comfort-matic . . All I can say is thankfully Fiat have dropped it completely (on the second clutch/actuator mechanism in only 12k miles)

Hence ordering the new one

Steve

None of your issues on my 21 Autosleeper. 6000 miles since last July and delighted with the gearbox.

No issues at all on our automatic, 6k miles, but connected to a Merc.
Needs checking with dealer.

I have driven almost 1000 miles in the last 5-6 days in our 2022 Itineo with the ZF gearbox and have not had any issues such as you have described. I have to say I am more than happy with my choice, I find it much better than the Comfortmatic we had previously. I love the new 7" digital dash display too, the information displayed is well lit, unlike the deeply cowled instruments of our previous Autotrail.

It may not be relevant to your case, but while our motorhome was in for some warranty work the dealer told me there was a FIAT recall for the ZF gearbox 'mode' switch, I wasn't given any more details as whatever the issue was ours was not affected.

One thing that I have noticed is if you are in D mode & come to a halt the engine will stop (stop start feature). If I then shift to P the engine restarts.....

Like most of the above we have experienced no problems with ours. Having towed our scooter, on its trailer, through mountain passes in Spain for the last three weeks I absolutely love the autobox.

Had no trouble on our Fiat 9 speed mice and smoothe no clunking or jolting.nice and smooth even loool

Not in a van but had several ZF auto boxes in recent BMWs and they've all been brilliant and super smooth. Wouldn't hesitate to have one in my next van.

11k on our Adria Twin 160bhp and it is the smoothest autobox I've ever driven (except for hybrids). Nothing like you describe.

I’ve booked it in at the dealer for the end of May as there are a few other things they need to look at as well, we will see what they find if not I have a Fiat van and truck place not far from me I will speak to them.
