Ours has one of those big Fiat folding starter keys, with buttons for opening the doors. Our van does not have central locking so was wondering if the original folding key can be changed for a smaller one without the buttons ?

I find that having long legs the key sticks out quite a way and wondered what it would do to my leg/knee in an accident.

Ours came with two keys, one of each, and we keep the big button key as the spare. We don’t have central locking either. There’s no problem getting a key cut but it’s the transponder within that’s the problem, may have to be a Fiat dealer order.

This is one of the spare keys that came with our Peugeot boxer.

This type of key is available from eBay sellers.

I recently bought a full remote key with all the buttons for our van from eBay and had our local mobile auto locksmith cut and program the new key for £100 which was a big saving over the main Peugeot dealer price.

Question to the op and Hettie's Crew . Do the lights flash when you press the buttons even though there is no central locking?
Only asking as Baycott when he was here was saying that there was no central locking but when buttons pressed the lights flashed as though locking/unlocking. Seemed odd to me that that still remeained when the locking had been deleted?

To be honest I’m not entirely sure if we have central locking or not, I can’t answer the question as when we picked it up we just started using the smaller key and kept the button key at home in a drawer. Central locking never even crossed my mind when we bought it, I just assumed it was the standard Ducato issue but wouldn’t apply to the converted motorhome.
I’ll have to try it sometime. If it works I still don’t think we would use.

I’ve been quoted £70 by Timpsons for a replacement key including the programming.

My Keys, operate the Cab and Hab Doors on the Sprinter. (2009 Rapido) seperate fob for the alarm. The same with the Fiat It replaced (2007). On that it set the alarm as well.
