Today pumped front tyres up from 50 to 70 psi as was not using van until january. Did both tyres and then tried on back tyre. On starting pump connected to back tyre 15a fuse blew. Changed fuse and pump ran but sounded very rough.
On taking pump apart the nylon gearwheel had some teeth melted. Assume piston seized but motor turned, motor has metal gearwheel which stripped the nylon gearwheel.

I suggest leaving pump to cool down after each tyre, perhaps a cup of tea?

Also the gunge cansister has date stamp useby 02/16, this on a van first registered 06/13.
Assume they are available.
Think I might try a bicycle track pump, no fuses, no long leads required but some excercise........

My previous van came with a fiat pump which I used once then it packed up threw it away and bought a better quality that was man enough to the job. Then threw away tyre gunge and installed spare wheel

70 psi sounds like maybe a lot of internal pressure stress on the tyres..?

I run on Michelin Agilis+ 215/75 R16 load code 116 tyres, and I set the fronts at 4bar (58psi) and rears at 4.5 bar (65psi) and that seems plenty, on our 3.5tonne overcab Fiat Ducato.
Both axles are near max weight.

I found that at the higher pressures the 12V socket fuse would blow. If I started the pump going before I connected to the valve there would be no problem. This puts a gradual load on the pump rather than a sudden one if connected before starting. Less stress on the fuse!

Tyres are rated to 83psi, was just raising front tyres as not using for a while.
Normal running for me is 50 front, 70 rear
This from axle weights and conti tyre charts.

Agree "soft" start on fuse would be kinder. Not an issue now as heading down the manual route!

Work a treat and keeps you warm as well.

Martin
Track pump purchased and works fine. Today inflated tyre from 60 to 70 psi, as a test. No problem and for me track pump will be fine unless trying to inflate from 0 psi......
