Has anyone actually done this?
I'm currently changing my cam and doing some rust prevention, saw how easy it would be to take it a few steps further and get the whole engine out.

So ... I was wondering how feasible and how easy to change just the engine from 2.5td to 2.8td (not jtd), my gearbox seems fine so see no need to change that (assuming full compatibility).

I thought about doing the same to a 1.9TD a few years ago, found the 2.8TD very hard to come by, probably even more rare now.

Changing the engine is the easy bit,,then it gets really complicated, wiring and ecu needs changing, throttle probably different, exhaust, hoses for cooling system etc etc etc.Think there was an article in MMM when I read it at end of Aug.. BUSBY.

I'm hoping moving from 2.5TD to 2.8TD (NOT JTD) will mean I don't need to do ECU changes etc. I'm blissfully assuming everything else is just the same, just slightly more cylinder capacity with slightly different injectors. You never know ....

I dont think you will get any significant benefit, my 2.8 struggled at 65 as was poor on incline.s yet my mates 2.5 would leave us behind, his mh was smaller though,

Having read something similar to your plans on the Talbot Owners Club I think you will have issues with the gearbox which then continues to the drive shafts. What year is the 2.5 engine

Looks like about 10 BHP more and a slight increase in torque, so not a huge increase.

My old 2.8 was the epitome of a yesterdays engine but it was not a TD. Everyone enjoys a challenge but from the time I first acquired my first 2.3TD I have never looked back. I am loath to ask if the difference would be worth it?

you will nead the gearbox and another modify the drive shafts one of the drive shafts is like a small prop shaft you will nead another one like that.
you will also have to change to dash board gear shift
modify the exhaust
modify bottom engine mount
and other things
it can be done but its a pane in the but
i am a fairly competent engineer and fund it difficult to do
best of luck
