Fiat Ducato speedo drive

Hi does anybody know if the part number 3 in the diagram can be changed without removing the gearbox it's the drive cog for speedo any advise please

Remove bolt 7 and carefully lift out the whole assembly the shaft and gear part no 1 will come out with it, be careful not to drop the shaft into the gearbox.

It's part number 3 that needs changing i have had the other assembly out and that's all ok so it must be the drive ring inside the gearbox

Sorry did not see that in the post. In that case then the box has to come out and be stripped.
