I'm a newbie
Hello again ,Where could I get a cambelt change and service in the west midlands for a Fiat Ducato Motorhome ?

Not West Midlands but great garage in Swindon with a camp site not too far away.
If you google it your get s list up .

Which engine have you got ???
Some Fiats have a chain not a belt and therefore don't need changing

Dave Newell then unless you have a local garage that specialises in vans (like me)

Another for Dave Newell - but according to latest Practical Motorhome he ain't too keen on A-Class :xwink::xwink::xwink:

Cannot fault the guy at all.

Another vote for Dave Newell

Stay on the site opposite - http://www.severngorgepark.co.uk/tourers.html

Dave usually gives out a free ticket for the local attractions.

I would recommend a trip to Blists Hill. -https://Broken Link Removed

His wife drove us there and picked us up later. Great service.

Two places in South Yorkshire both charge £50 an hour. I also used a garage in Rotherham to replace the complete clutch - about the same price

Have you got some contact numbers mate of mine wants his doing. Done my own last year, being an xmechanic would like to do his but now physically unfit. Trade price for parts cost me £150 with pump and pump was only £36. So what you got there is a cracking price. If you could give me the info I will try and sort it for him as I owe him a favour

Ring Bowes Motors in Rotherham.
Haven’t got there number by any chance, or the other 2garages sorry to be a pain but going away on the 11th. P/S will they give a warranty if you supply your own parts, lots of garages around here won’t suppose a bit of a get out clause. But if I can get it done for him at that price it’s worth while me running over there

P/S many thanks

Just seen that’s a 2.5 not a 2.3 is this the one you used?

No sorry never noticed.
I usually have to ring all suppliers for parts, as many MoHo's are not on their system.
I tend to send them a photo of the spec plate on the front bulkhead.
For me Gates belts are the best.

Again, Dave Newall for the reasons noted previously.
Even travelled down from Glasgow to get it done!
OK, we were touring at the time!

How do people think Garages Can supply warranties on a cheap e bay Chines parts
They do only when they supply parts because they pay Top Doller For A grade Parts from A grade suppliers who back up their parts with warranties
If a new part fails it aint the fitters problem is it
NO it aint its the supplier who has to pay the fitter to do it all again plus damages We dont work for nowt either :xdoh:

Only asking stealaway were he got this great deal from p/s fitting gates belts

No mate just the names of the 2garages in Yorkshire that you mentioned if you can’t remember no problem

One is an old friend that only does some jobs in his mates tyre garage when hes not too busy. Another is a old mate who has a garage in Bakewell. Both quoted the same price of £50 x 4 plus parts. The one I recommended is a garage in Rotherham who replaced my clutch at £50 and hour plus parts. He will be in the phone book.
Around here the going rate seems to be £50/hour - could be more elsewhere.

You seem to like Chinese stuff here's some more

Cheap No Good
Good No Cheap

Good warranties only come with Good Parts, supplied by Good reputable trade suppliers,
It makes no difference who fits them provided they have the skills
Give crap parts to a skilled man and you get a crap job
E Bay parts are often very very cheap some for good reasons some for bad
Just because it says Gates on the Box is no guarantee its genuine there is often no trace-ability
if you believe otherwise you are only deluding yourself
Sure buy the odd bits like mirrors headlights ect all day long but NOT safety critical items
or Cam belt critical items or oils etc, you fancy a gamble fine knock yourself out

If it were that simple my self and the likes of Dave Newall would be coining it in buying like mad from e bay
I can assure for the most part we do not
I have been approached on a number of occasions if I would like to sell my empty "Forte" product bottles
and it wasn't Forte asking:xeek:

I use a company called Stoneywood Motors In Sowerby Bridge, I trust the main mechanic there implicitly. He usually discusses what he thinks needs doing and advises as he has known the vehicle for the last four years.
I have never not taken his advice and sometimes it has worked out better for me as with the milage we do (as most M/homers) it is in his opinion not necessary to change some items.

I am booked in on Tuesday 2nd of January for the cam belt and service and after checking the cost of the parts he gave me a quote in the region of £475 but this is not an exact science as we all know so I have budgeted for £500.

I don't know how that compares with other Garages but I will be more than happy with £500 as I know I will sleep at night when I set off through the Tunnel a week on Saturday:xgrin:
