Converted caravanner!
Received a notification that Fiat have had problems with Steering Knuckles.
Fiat reference is 6291.
Our van is a 2019 model.
Got it booked in for an inspection next week but they’ve said that if the part is nonconforming we will have to leave the van there.
They will then have to make a warranty claim to Fiat and wait for the parts from Italy.
Fingers crossed it passes as we‘ve got a few sites booked ready for when we’re released back into the wild!

There is a thread on here with the numbers involved If you have had a letter then it’s highly likely you will need the work done. Ours is 2019 but before the knuckles concerned.
Hope you are back on the road soon.

Is this just panel vans or Base vehicles on autotrail too perhaps?

We have ours booked in too and will miss out on some much anticipated bookings if it needs doing. When I booked he said that they had already inspected a few and had not yet found one that needs doing. Fingers crossed for us both.

On some of the German forums they are quoting 4 weeks for the part's 😭

I've never had a recall letter for our 2019 fiat based Dethleffs.
I've just checked their website and it tells me that ours has a recall. Seems like I need to phone someone.

Same as the sensor problem they ran out of them 3 weeks delivery but at least you could still use the van.

Must have them in stock now.....had mine done a couple of weeks ago. However, they did have two weeks notice before they could fit me in. 🤷‍♂️

It was July last year when they first realised they had a problem picked new van up in Perth by the time I was home the engine light was on🤬

The steering knuckle recall is a more recent one than the sensor one and the availability of the parts seems to be different. I am going to get confused if the two issues get muddled up.

The steering knuckle recall was first made in November 2020 in Germany so they have had a run on the parts way before us.

In which case they can’t be too concerned about safety having waited months to let UK customers know. If so why the need to hold vehicles off road if repairs are needed.

Ours is booked in for the check but there’s no mention in the letter and no mention was made on the phone of it not being safe to drive away in should the additional work be required. He just said they’d need to order the parts in and get us back.

Our Fiat professional garage said they need to visually inspect and to take some measurements to see if they conform, if no cracks visible and they don't conform you can take it away while they order the parts, if any cracks visible then vehicle will stop with them until parts are replaced.

I won't be using my van if they need replacing.

I have checked mine myself and can't see any cracks but don't know what sizes they need to check.

My Knuckle no crack.

If you look at the date stamp on the stickers on the knuckle that's broke it's 24/06/2019 and mine is the 21/06/2019 so not much between them 🤞

I think I understand it better after the 3 previous posts. I will have a look for cracks for when I can get to our storage site next week.

Just turn your wheels lock to lock and stick your phone in and take a few pics easy to check visually, they only take 15mins to check at Fiat good luck👍

Hi Saint, can you advise which site you checked. We too have a Dethleffs but as we are fulltimers, will not pick up any post for at least another 2 months

Thanks

Our Vin is .....02N4.... built in 2019, which made me think it would be included; but Fiat Professional have said it is not due a recall. The number of vehicles involved (2633) and the time span further suggests not all base vehicles need an inspection. However we are booked in for the sensor next week and I intend to ask them again once they have the vehicle.

Booked in for an inspection on 8th. Advised we were full timers and they said that if replacement required they will do it same day for us as we wait (3-4 hour job) - happy days!

Blimey that’s good, assume they have parts in stock then? Whereabouts are they based?
