We have always had the fiat ducato unit of our 2016 Burstner motorhome serviced at a local Fiat dealer. Last week both the drivers airbag warning light was showing and the off side day time running lights were not on. We booked in and took the vehicled along to the dealer and left it there for an assessment. An hour later they phoned to say the repair job would cost £1K. Today I spoke to a lady on the Fiat customer service line. The result being that this afternoon the dealer rang to say that they wouldn't charge for the failed airbag ECU unit saving us £160. At this stage no goodwill for the light unit costing £450 (expensive as it is combined with the main headlights), or the labour charge of around £300 (for around 3 hours work). No recognition for loyalty or the fact that the item failed so soon. Anyone else experienced anything similar?

My air bag ecu failed only 3 year old van I was told by the garage it is a common fault
Cost £300 to repair no joy of fiat

a headlamp unit with LED day running is around £350 original part no dealer price

Yes, that is what they told me. The running light problem more of a rarity, but also very costly. S**t happens!!

No! They are in a combined unit with the headlights, so all has to be repleced. As someone else on here said; "progress"!

not good....
they will be charging approx £110 for the Diagnostic alignment ( that appears to be FIAT std charge ) of your new ECU and its no more than an hour to change the ECU and the headlight physical change i would guess.

Hi all
Have you had a look on the DVSA web site there is a list of recalls that cover all safety related items on vehicles if it’s not on there phone or email DVSA to let them know there is a common issue and they will bring the manufacturer to heel and hopefully get the repair for free ,the more people that phone the better for all of us

Contact Fiat yourself
I am in contact and have been speaking to their customer services in Italy. I am waiting to hear back at the moment.

Wow, sounds like dealer rip off.
It certainly is...and seemingly NO goodwill at all despite the fact we have used them for all servicing. I will probably name and shame and never go there again!!

These any good?

Taking the headlight out is literally a 10 minute job; 2 screws and a plug connector.
If the ballast (driver unit) has gone, then they are held on with 4 little screws and a couple of electrical connections on the underside of the lamp unit.
Changed ours when we imported our LHD van

Yes, I have had the conversation with another dealer regarding the whole time allocation to each job by Fiat. They said 20 minutes for this, our dealer is charging 3/4 hour. What is most annoying is that the dealer who we have been loyal to for 3 years is showing us absolutely no goodwill and has, in fact over charged us for labour and been negative in obtaining any concessions from Fiat. I spoke to the guy who sold us the vehicle who said "any issues with the habitation end would have been dealt with by him".
I have had to do all of the talking/chasing to achieve anything at all!

Conclusion; we now have our motorhome back and repaired. The dealer, North East Truck and Van in York has serviced our vehicle for the last 3 years and so has had a certain amount of loyalty from ourselves. We were under a bit of pressure to get the repair done and so become road legal again for the holidays, and also my husband was due to spend a week out of the country for work. We accepted the quote with the question of goodwill. NE T and V gave absolutely no help in this department and I had to do all of the chasing (to Fiat, Italy) myself. I managed to get around £500 (including the VAT) off the final bill. No goodwill was forthcoming from NE T and V regarding their labour charge. In fact thay charged the maximum possible for diagnostics and more than the Fiat guidelines for the 2 repairs. I spoke to another NE Fiat dealer who said that the diagnostics would have taken about 15 minutes as the fault with the ECU would have been found quite quickly. We were charged for 1.5 hours. When the quote was given (obviously post diagnostics) no mention was made of this charge.
We are very disappointed with the lack of help and goodwill from NE T & V and will probably use the other dealer that I spoke to for future servicing.
We noted that apart from their usual quota of commercial vehicles in for work that there were a number of other motorhomes in their yard for attention.
People of York and area, be warned that in the event of an out of warranty problem with your motorhome, that you will receive absolutely no gesture of goodwill or assistance (apart form being given the customer service phone number of the manufacturer).
Very disappointing.

This will soon disappear off the page, why not write a review in the review section where it will remain visible to all.
