Hello,

Just wondered if anyone had any idea or a similar experience with a Fiat Ducato chirping on startup. It happens for about a minute after startup then goes, I have checked and it's not a belt. Sound more metallic, goes with temp or oil circulation? Hopefully, videos allow it to be heard clearly. Wanted some input before paying a garage to look into the issue. 2019 with 10k miles (out of warranty).

It clearly varies with engine revs.
Similar sound to when I had an alternator bearing giving up the ghost.
Could also be a water pump bearing.
Quite possibly neither of those.

My B544 Fiat had an exhaust mechanical squeak for a few minutes whilst engine was cold at start-up.and 'disappeard' when warmed'up.
I located it by putting my boot on the exhaust outlet pipe.
Think it was one of the exhaust pipe hangers.

Spray some water from a squeeze bottle or similar on the belt should alter the tone or stop it temporary

Just out of curiosity, try switching the aircon on and see if that affects it ( puts a bit more load on the belts and checks if the aircon clutch is rubbing)

My money on the fan belt , does it want tightening?

I had a similar noise on my last van. Eventually traced back to 2 issues. Firstly when changing the brake fluid our dealer managed to spill it over all of the aux belts. Replacing them helped a lot, but we then discovered one of the belt tensioner pulleys had a duff bearing. No idea if the brake fluid caused that, but replacing all the tensioner and idler pulleys sorted it properly.

Thank you for the input, it happened after it went into a workshop for a new radiator thermostat as it wasn't opening and the only way to keep the engine cool was to run the heaters on full in the cab to get airflow through the engine. It kept the temperature acceptable until the new stat was put in. I am hoping it will go over time and not get any worse.

Mine makes a similar noise for about 20 or 30 secs after a cold start. it’s done it since new done 7000 miles now. I just assumed it was a belt squeaking.

I'd say something that's rotating by the belt(s). I suggest you take a look at it or take it somewhere to be taken care of. If it were mine, I would have my pants wet waiting for something on the timing belt -region to give up :-/

Wow..........doom and gloom squad out in full ? Simply apply a spray of soapy water to the belts and wait and see. If the temperature outside was low...Look again at it when its hotter! Come on guys (and ladies of course)....Lift off the doom and gloom and use a little common sense! How many miles on the engine? How many miles on the belts? How many hours has the engine done? These all add up to the possibility of a cause. But not detrimental ! Does it go off when warm? If so........it could be anything!
Try to imagine the turning items on an engine when it fires up from cold! Then try to get your heads around what actually is going on ...when cold?
It is only a problem if on all the time whatever the weather or heat/cold conditions.

Kev................Honestly I do know..Spent a lot of time at Miras testing centre
