I'm a newbie
We are contemplating buying an Autoroller 70 with Fiat 1.9 TD engine. We have been told that we can expect 1.9s to be very slow on hills and uneconomical to run. This will be our first MH and we live in Cornwall, which is hilly and would like to travel in France, Spain, Italy etc. Does anyone have any info or advice please?

yes...the 1.9td is underpowered for what you ask of it.

the gearbox will get a lot of use, changing down more than one gear for all but the slightest of hills

bearing in mind, the engine will be working hard as the van will be loaded close to its limit most of the time.
in its commercial van guise it may be loaded with bulk not weight, so wont matter as much as with a motorhome body and all the weight that includes.

i would hold out for a 2.5tdi or 2.3 JTD
