Friend and neighbour just arrived home in his van.Upset because he thinks his 2012 16k Fiats clutch has gone.He couldn't get any gears with clutch depressed, and an attempt to start it in gear with clutch in it jolted forward.I got in and found the pedal was 3/4 down,I pumped it half a dozen time and it came up to it's normal position thenI started it up and the clutch operated Ok.Whats the problem?Slave cylinder sticking? He and his wife had just driven over a 100 miles with no problem.Stopped for coffer then found the problem, limped home the last 10 miles.

Yep sounds like slave cylinder, bad news is its inside the bell housing, I think the gearbox has to come out to change it.

I had similar problem approx 4 months ago on a 2012 Ducato with 25000 miles on clock. Clutch slipping. Diagnosed by local Fiat garage as slave cyclinder failure inside gearbox. Estimate for £1600 to repair which included a new flywheel at £400.

As vehicle had full service history, garage submitted goodwill claim to Fiat as the slave cyclinder should not have failed. Long story short I only paid for the flywheel. Result and lesson well learnt to keep service history up to date.

We had a similar
Check the master cylinder 1st, behind the clutch pedal.
And that's what I would check first as my 3.0l failed just under 20k, same issue and was luckily the master cylinder, as made of plastic!

Do all the new engines have a concentric slave cylinder? My 2004 2.8jtd is outside the bell housing.
