We are buying a new van this winter and it comes with 2 years Fiat Camper Assist.
Is there any point in still buying breakdown cover?
Even the supplier is having to look up what you get

It’s a few years since we bought a new van with Fiat assist but it worked for us without any other cover, had to phone them from Spain one year and they responded.

I had it on New van in 2004.I had red pennant breakdown cover from caravan club .we broke down in France. Called caravan club and got recovered to a fiat garage.I got out paperwork not knowing I had fiat ASSIST.French guy took one look at paperwork and told me I had wasted my money with red pennant as fiat ASSIST covers breakdown for two years.

Shouldn't need to. Only thing Fist cover doesn't cover is hotel costs if you breakdown in the UK. They then cover transport cost home and for picking up the vehicle.
Hotel costs are covered abroad.

a friend of mine bought a new van and cancelled his AA cover, a few weeks later he was driving his car and the cam belt went. Stupid man hadn't worked out the warranty and breakdown cover was for just the van

We don't have breakdown insurance because the Fiat system on our new van(s) has worked really well. We've had to call them out twice and within the hour they've arrived to sort the issue.

Depending on the van you might get 3 free years cover

This was my reply on a similar thread:

I've never used Fiat Assist but a member of Carthago Owners UK had big problems.

Their new van broke down just outside Paris with an engine problem. Fiat Assist involved Carthago in the negotiations (for some reason). A squabble developed which slowed resolution of the problem. They ended up camped in the garage compound for 4 weeks.

They wished they'd taken out a separate breakdown policy to give themselves more voice in getting the problem sorted quickly. This may have been just an unfortunate one-off situation where the system failed to deliver on this occassion. Just saying !!!

Whilst the warranty on imported MHs (ie not UK built) is usually 2 years, the Fiat Assist it usually 3 years, don't ask me why but it is! Our new Carthago has 3 years worth of Fiat Assist.

I'm a poor pensioner, skint now, been away 3 weeks and my camping bill is already up to €26. ?

Sorry Lenny I'd not realised - you should have said earlier.
I would organise a whip round but if you're going to throw money around like that you're unlikely to receive any sympathy on here.
Sorry, but you need to be a bit more thrifty.
