I'm a newbie
Hello.Collecting our new Fiat van next month.Wondered if any body has took up the extended 5 year warranty. At £800 and a bit is it a good idea. What do people think.

Personally l wouldn't bother, you have a three year warranty anyway, should you feel you want another 5 years wait until then (y)
Edit, and should you decide to sell it after say three years

I thought the standard Fiat Ducato warranty was 2 years, not 3. 3 may be the paintwork. Remember that the warranty period also includes roadside assistance throughout Europe.

The extended warranty will also include roadside assistance. Like any warranty it's going to be a gamble whether that £800 paid now, for that extra three years peace of mind seems good value insurance or not.

The extended warranty will probably have mileage limits. You must take it out within 15 days of the vehicle being registered.

Fiat warranty on the Adria we are still waiting for apparently only has two year warranty is this normal 🤔

My apologies you may be correct, it is awhile since l bought a new van

You can only extend the warranty within 15 days of the first registration
see this thread
Took me a little time but also got 5 years the Fiat camper breakdown cover included

We extended our 2 year warranty to 5 years. We figured that the Fiat Camper Assistance (breakdown and recovery) which is included in the £800 fee knocked about £360 off the bill (3x£120). Makes the cost feel a lot more reasonable.

I was never offered to extend the warranty when i bought our Carthago. So therefor it came with the 2 year fiat warranty and that expired on 1st June 2018. I had the service with Fiat just prior to its expiry date and you can guess it, one month later the Gearbox warning light came on.
Booked in with Adam Morey in Portsmouth (Simon)who carried out repair who was very supportive and said that he would get the repair paid by Fiat so I was not charged. Two weeks later Simon contacted me and informed me that Fiat had rejected the claim. He said it appears that Fiat had now become less flexible around warranty lieghway. He managed to give me a good deal on the price due, the original costing was £350 including VAT. So the moral of the story is you pays your money or you take your chances.

£800 for three year warranty. Is it good value. Well since July 2018 I have not had any issues so as it stands at the moment I am up on the deal but personally with me its a peace of mind thing. If something went on the engine the costs would be covered.

I would take the view that the £800 plus the price of the van and any extras you have had or intend to have (alarm etc) fitted is the price you paid to be on the road ready.

I also have to pay £180 per year for European breakdown /recovery so if so that equates to £540 over three years. so for £260 covering the vehicle is about £86 per year. I know what I would do in your shoes.

I asked why only 15 days to take up the extended warranty. The answer given was that if it was not sold as something associated with the original sale, it was treated as a financial product and this would involve FSA registration etc. Sort of makes sense but has anyone been given a different explanation?

We paid it. So a yes from me...

Think warranty is 3 years if bought in UK, but 2 years if base vehicle was originally supplied/bought in Europe
When we got ours back in 2013 it was two years FIAT warranty and a third year provided by FIAT Professional hence the bought in UK stipulation. Whether it's still the same?????

When we bought both of our previous Fiat Ducato vans the warranty was 3 years.

But they have been fairly reliable. We had the Fiat dash issues but nothing else that I can remember.

But we have only travelled around 35k total in both vans. (y)

Hope to be picking up our van in September...........5 year warranty included in the sale. :giggle:

I got it and did it within the 15 days of purchase my dealer made me aware of it but as the dealers don’t get any commission for selling it he said not many recommend it. He told me to contact Fiat in Italy on their 08003428000 number and they put me in contact with Simon Potter the Fiat van service manager at Adam Morey Ltd down in Portsmouth 02392691122 who appears to be Fiats guy to go to in the U.K. Simon was very Helpful and sorted it all for me.

It's a numbers game isn't it the better the discount you negotiate the less chance of 'perks' like warranty included.Does this 5 year warranty include servicing costs as well I wonder.

No, you don’t get servicing included. The only condition of the warranty I’m getting with my purchase, is the van needs to be serviced as per the schedule, using recommended parts, and the dealer isn’t expecting me to have it done with them due to distance.

I double checked with them. (y)

That would be two service intervals at 2 and 4 years. We paid around £250 for the 2 year and £530 for year 4. Whether you extend the warranty or not, its down to individuals if they wish to keep a dealer service history.

Having missed the 15 day opportunity window myself I would take it if I had a second chance. Labour costs alone would soon offset it.

Is the 2 3 or 5 year extended fiat warantee transferable?

Labour costs only arise if you need to claim under the warranty. Even with these covered for 5 years I would rather have 5 years trouble free motoring. It does mean I have to pay Fiat Professional rates for the first 2 services but I would probably do that anyway for the service record.

Thanks for all the interest and help everyone.I think the bottom line is for me it's worth taking this offer up.

Our breakdown cover is only £64 a year also you need to add around £500 extra you pay if you use a main dealer for servicing I know you don't have to but if you don't if can make warranty claims very difficult.

I’ve never seen the wording of a Fiat warranty so couldn’t say if it’s any good or not.
However, £800 doesn’t seem an unreasonable price to pay, especially if it gives breakdown cover, and you might keep it for 5 years or longer. It’s an insurance that you hope you never claim on.

Does it have to be serviced at a FIAT Pro location or is it acceptable for a third party location to do it using genuine FIAT parts? If the latter it may be cheaper labour rates.

It is allowable but might make warranty claims difficult.

Are you in a position to give details of your breakdown cover. Is it pan Europe and covers over 3.5 t

OK, Any thoughts on:::::

Bought van mid march, had alarm & tracker fitted (Vanbitz who incidentally haven't offered a voucher for anything on our WIBN list for their excellent reviews, cough, cough)

Lockdown on the 23rd "Bummer"

No one answering phones, no response to email....... thought wait and see.

Post Lock Down, Took MH for Fiat recall (re DPF software?) advised not registered for warrantee???? WHAT, there's no Registration date on the system for your MH so it 's not under warrantee......??***????**?*?*?

Send Reg doc details, now all ok except NEVER advised or offered extended warrantee. Have today emailed Fiat. Will advise when we hear something.

Keep safe and remember "Nothing" has changed.
