Asking this as I'm not very mech minded (prefer electrics)

But we have an interminttent fault on the glo plugs which afaik are still the original 2007 ones

Is this a job I could try or do I need a mechanic

Glow plugs are Fiat's can be notorisly difficult to remove often ending up with stripped threads in the head probably best left to a mechanic.

Do you have the glowplug warning light coming on the dash?
Are you having problems starting?
I have heard it can be a sensor somewhere on the block.

Even if access would be easy, it happens regularly that one breaks off, because of force needed in combination with corrosion, so my advice would be to make it someone else’s responsibility, might end up cheaper if you would be so unlucky to break one😇

I have one faulty Glow plug. The advice from three different garages I've mentioned it to is as long as it starts ok, leave well alone as what should be a small job is almost always a BIG job involving the head being removed.
