FIAT 2.8 jtd 2003 Tachometer fault

My tachometer has started under-reading by 50%.

Is it likely to be a fault at the transmitter end, or possibly that the needle on the display has come loose on its spindle?

Or any other ideas please?

I've got an '02 Ducato and recently the speedo/tacho stopped working. Turned out to be a faulty reader/sensor at the gearbox end. Local garage charged circa £100 to check and replace it.

Had the same problem and it was the sender unit in the gearbox, fiat ones are not cheap but can get cheap ones from eBay.

Tachometer not Tachograph Trev. You know, the dial what shows rpm.
