Hi all,

We have a 4-year old Fiamma Turbo Vent 160 fan in our moho which is giving problems. It shuts down after about 3-4 mins operation on full power. The thermo cut-out on the circuit board gets hot and I suspect that it shuts down to avoid damage. Once cooled off, it will run again but the symptoms repeat.

The motor is supposed to draw 3 amps at max power but the control board in our vehicle shows 6.6 amps draw. The motor rpm occasionally fluctuates and these two factors together lead me to suspect the motor is at fault.

There's no visible heat damage to the circuit board but I haven't the kit or skills to do any further diagnostics on the components. I can say that the fan doesn't run any faster on max than it did when new. This might rule out a problem with voltage/current control through the board but that's just speculation on my part.

Before I go ahead and order a new motor, any advice or previous experience with these fans that you could share would be much appreciated. :)

Mike

Nothing rubbing or interfering with the fan ... I had a similar thought and checked it thoroughly.

Thanks for your reply. :)

does it spin freely with your finger?

Yes, but not what I would call free-spinning. Obviously there's some drag because of the magnets in the motor. Put it this way, if feels normal and there's nothing notchy about the rotation. Worth noting that the fault arises even if I run the motor with the fan blade removed. Effectively, no load but still the safety cut-out trips after 3 - 4 mins.

Falcon269 - Just reading this post, we purchased one of these fans in July 2019, it failed in a similar fashion in January, whilst we were in Spain. As it was still under warranty I contacted Rainbow Conversions who I bought it from who advised they would sort it when I got back to the UK. Unfortunately Ive not been able to get anywhere with Rainbow as far as replacing it, did you get yours sorted, and if so what did you do/where did you get it done?

Thanks
Alb

Try Just Kampers. I don't know if they sell that particular fan, but they've just been extremely helpful to me in ordering a Turbo fan kit for the old style Vent 28 rooflight, now replaced by the Vent 28F and as a consequence seemingly unavailable anywhere. They got one direct from Fiamma, and quoted a delivery time of 28 days, but due to the current problems in Italy it took about 6 weeks. Brilliant service though.

Hi Alb,

I bought a replacement motor off ebay and fitted it myself. The seller I purchased from isn't listing the part any longer but I did find this supplier for you to consider instead.

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-...0001&campid=5338547443&icep_item=153857774884

Removing the old motor and fitting the new one was reasonably straightforward. It took me about an hour in total.

Good luck!
