Auto Roller 746
Morning.. We have Rollerteam Autoroller 746 with a 4.5m Fiamma F45S rollout awning. This awning has been damaged beyond repair and requires replacing. My dilemma is should I stay with Fiamma or go for a Thule. Your views and experiences would be invaluable..

We have 2021 Rollerteam Autoroller 747 and 4.5 Fiamma F45S
I would stick to the same, if you were happy with the weight etc. you'll no doubt have extra bits and pieces, you have user experience and the fixing holes will be the same.

Yes, Thule are lighter and less expensive ..however we've never had any problems whatsoever ..rolls in, rolls out, ha ha we call ours a rain guard as during the past year we've UK motorhomed.

No doubt others will be along to give their views so you'll have a broad spectrum of views and opinions to make your decission.

Good luck, whatever you choose isn't going to be cheap so I appreciate why you are calling the Funsters.

I thought Thule were more expensive? We had Thule on both our IH630’s and when we bought our Consort we had a Thule fitted by HillView Awnings even though Consort fit Fiamma and it would have been a bit cheaper. We have the Thule omnistor end panels so didn’t want to change.

Might be wrong of course.

I've had both, i slightly preferred the Thule because the legs can be set to any length whereas my Fiamma had a number of preset possitions so more awkward if you want to create a slope for rainwater. Not sure about your model though. I think I would go like for like if it means you don't have to disturb your existing fittings etc.

Yes, Thule are more expensive. I got a really good deal on an Omnistor 6300 and fitted it myself to our Reef.

I would go for Thule every time, BUT, the fixings may be different and require new holes through the body to secure.

I had this problem on a previous motorhome where I 'banana'd' the Fiamma awning. I didn't like the awning but the simplist solution without more holes was to replace like for like.

Thanks. I think you’re right. Like for like is the way forward

I'd stick with Fiamma as its a straight swap and will likely fit the existing brackets.
I’m replying to all you lovely people who took time to give their opinion. I think I am going to go like for like as fixings will be the same and we have user knowledge etc Thanks

Not sure if I'm teaching you to suck eggs,
but if the damage was caused by the wind, then get at least two decent Fiammia storm straps and a couple of 18" long marquee metal tent pegs (The crap ones supplied with the storm straps, I donated for a pint of beer to a fellow camper )

This is my canopy out on a still summer day, not a breath of wind and it's 30c in the shade.

The two yellow storm straps are hammered in with a rubber mallet using the 18" spikes
(Bought for £2 each at a rally, but easily available on line, many are made from bent rebar.)

The flexi-shade screens are held down with six x 6" rock pegs.
The legs are also held down with two x 6" rock pegs.

Having seen a canopy blow over the top of a vehicle, even on a windless day mid summer I rig it out for a storm.
If the wind gets up as far as 'flappy' levels, then I wind it on (leaving all the pegs in place, so it can be wound out again and pegged out in under two mins.

I also always wind in the canopy at night.

I recently fitted a Thule awning on my daughter’s VW T6 and a Fiamma awning on my VW T6 and the Fiamma is superior in my opinion. Having said that the Thule awning on my Carthago has been faultless.
