Fitted my awning a few months ago now but never got round to fitting the wall brackets.

Is there any real use for them? As far as I can see it’s just for a partial expansion and to save putting the legs on the floor. Maybe because some places you can’t?

Is it really worth drilling more holes in the side of the van for them or are they best left in the garage?

I always use the wall brackets, if you put the legs on the ground they really should be pegged down. If you have a dog on a tether as we do they get caught round the awning legs whereas with the brackets they can just walk under them. They are more stable as well as the angle puts more outward tension on the awning. I always fit them, wouldn't be without.

We use our wall brackets when using Aires because you’re not supposed to put anything out and some times Aires are tarmac so you could peg awning down.

May not be an easy fit for me. The left leg will require the water tank and possibly Truma removing to get enough access to mount the rear black plastic screw retainers and the right leg would want to be where the battery box door is.

Grrrrrrr extra thinking required

Never used on any van (3) because of same issue, one leg on a door - you appear to have more issues. Dogs, we work around and German aires, I can live without the shade for a day.

Fitting to the battery box may not be a problem if the lockers a bit bigger than the door. Both of my brackets are inside lockers, the front one in the gas locker and the rear one in the ski locker. There is probably no reason it couldn't be fitted to the door if its strong enough.

Possibly some reinforcement behind the skirt could be used for the front one or indeed both.

Its not so much if the door is strong enough but if the fixings for it, ie hinge/lock etc, are strong enough - the amount of force placed on the awning if it's a bit windy could be quite severe and these are the bits that will have to keep it secure!

Could put them on the skirt, if you reinforced the back with a piece of angle onto the underside of floor.

We have a similar problem with our Tribute 715 as right leg support would have to be fitted to the garage door and am sure would invalidate warranty and probably not strong enough. Really wish there was a way as I’d love to be able to use on Aires

Mine are simply screwed to the skirt without any reinforcing, recommended by a respected member of this forum.

I would of course not expect this method to hold firm in a wind but then again I would not leave the awning out overnight or unattended unless secured with storm straps firmly anchored to the ground.

They are excellent for deploying the awning for short periods quickly and easily, after all we are talking about a sunshade not an all weather awning.

Having found the brackets supplied with our Thule awning I looked into putting on the side which would have meant in the skirt. Apparently some of the folks who fit the awning don’t advise this as, in their experience they can cause problems. I fully understand probably hardly ever happens but knowing my luck.
So bought four of these things which can stack two high if need be. I’ve put the chequer plate which I both from a funster who sells them on here then put the weight on top filled with water. Yes I know it’s showtime on grass but I thought I’d try out. Great for aires on concrete. Hope this helps.
Ray.
