Well not long now till our Ferry. Portsmouth/Bilbao getting the Sunday one as we like the 2 nights for various reasons. No rush getting there and get off the other end nice and early.
This will be the first time driving a Motorhome in Spain. So plan is get off and get to a site that not to far from port. Did read on on this forum a place called Haro is nice so may head for there for a our first few nights.
So may get to meet some one from forum on board

There you go I live and learn

We drove down in the car and stayed at Hotel Rioja. Good room and food - but the wine list - oh boy - I've never seen a wall of wine like it. I may the crass mistake of asking for a bottle of house red with the meal, well it had to be good, right. Instead the insulted waitress brought a telephone directory "these are our wines".

If you do stop at the camsite in Haro I do hope they have sorted out the cats. Someone had decided to leave plates of food beside the shower block each morning. We stayed overnight last December on our way home via Bilbao or Santander and they drove us mad. Each time you opened the van door to go to the shower/loo/washingup they would try to hop into the van. Would have been a nightmare in decent weather if you'd have wanted to leave your door open. Park well away from the block. Mind you everyone was complaing so they may well have killed them off.
Enjoy your trip, it's normally a handy stopvover spot.

Haro is nice, buy your wine at the campsite, just as nice and better value. We like to get the boxes to save on weight and to have the wine “on tap”!
It’s probably just as well you have missed the annual June 29th festival

It's just sort of a landing spot never been on a campsite in Spain before. So it's just some where to draw breath before we move on.
The wife (Les) wants to visit the area of Spain above Portugal. Some one did tell us the name but cant remember. I know we may be heading in the wrong direction to start but we have a few months to explore

We’re on your return ferry, leaving this evening fro Santander. And we did the same Sunday ferry on the way out!
Anyway. We drove for a couple of hours on the Tuesday morning to a very nice free aire at
Gijon. Very calm, quiet and a short walk through the park to town.

We usually use the Aires. The site on the top of Portugal is called Braganza we have used it many times. You have to visit the castle, its quite sclimb but well worth it.

Ideal time to drive along the green coast of Spain. It’s quite hot at the moment here in Central Portugal so keeping to the coast there I would say will be very pleasant. The top left corner is known as Galicia, somewhere we must spend more time. Enjoy your travels wherever you may go.

Haro's not really in the right direction if you want to go west and there's a reasonable chance the site could be full, it is very popular.

You could follow the coast west into Galicia which has some stunning locations.

Post #209 onwards on this page might give you a few possibilities. https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/two-go-back-to-spain.173803/page-7

Post #36 on page 2 of the same thread covers a convenient aire you could easily reach from Bilbao for the first night. :)

If you are going that way the Elephant Aire (nickname) for the Camper stop at Cabarceno, is an absolute must. You can drive around the wildlife park in your van if you want. A couple of good cheap restaurants in the village.

WE stayed on a Aire in Burgos , free of charge big carpark with water and dumping facilities , just across road big shopping moll with supermarket. Co-ordinates N 42.21063
W003.40.839. Page 217 number 396 in Aires book. That's if you are heading south , if going towards Madrid I could not believe how easy it was to go through we discovered on arriving in Spain that our New all singing SatNav had not got Spain on !! Motorway is easier than M25 round London , heading towards Madrid we found the next big place the other side on the Map and it was brillant ( must admit we were Dreading that part of the journey.
