We have the Hull - Rotterdam booked this Friday for our two week holiday, in June we visited Lake Constance and part of Germany. We haven’t been to France since 2019 due to Covid so looking at that as an option.

We’ve been checking the forecast and the first week looks ok most areas but the west looks a bit wet for second week, south looks lovely for two week as does the Sarlat down to Cahors area.

Any recommendations for the south or Cahors- Sarlat area would be appreciated, we enjoy cycling and nice old cities/towns and basic quite sites or Aires are fine.

Have you seen the price of diesel in Germany ?
Go France. Discounted til end of month.
No need to tell you about disused railway lines that way.

Yes it was expensive in June as was the Netherlands, yes the cycling looks good in France and anytime we’ve done it we’ve enjoyed it.

My Favourite route south through Germany is to pick up the E40/42 in Dunkirk to Aachen via Charleroi. Turn off at Junction 2 just as it enters Germany and head directly south to Monschau a town unchanged since a 1700. Then south again to the Mosel at Cochem. Tour the Mosel to Boppard and a ferry across the Rhine. For me there is not much to see on the Rhine so either side will do. There are ferries at various spots down to the south. South to Rüdesheim am Rheine and then I would head for Lindau on the Bodensee. You’re now in my favourite part of Germany, Bavaria and the Tyrol into Austria. There are many place to stop anywhere in Germany and plenty of Stellplatze if needs be. I would strongly recommend Mittenwald for a few days. You are next to the railway station and ticket to Garmish are very cheap. At Garmish station there is mountain railway to the highest Beer Keller in the world.
Find the Romantic road south and stop overnight at Rottenburg and Dinkelbuhl

You could buy a Critical air sticker for Germany – and even France last forever and only about 5 euro.

The River Lot flows through that area and has some attractive stretches and places worth visiting. I described our trip down it starting at post #218 on this thread.
