Has anybody ever used the Wischhafen - Gluckstadt ferry? We are travelling from northern Holland to the North Sea coast of Germany & this ferry will save us going via Hamburg & 100 miles. We will probably look to spend a night around that area, any suggestions?

No, I don't know about that ferry, but if you end up in Hamburg here's three choices.

Camping Bucholz in the centre, well-placed if you just want somewhere to park/sleep while you explore the city. Adequate but minimised pitches. Shop/atm within 5 min walk. By main road with buses. Gets full quickly, best to phone to book a place, they speak English.

ElbeCamp, on the banks of the Elbe, sandy, access to large beach, ideal for kids, lots of things to do, good cafe/restaurant/bar.

Knaus Camp site in Schnelsen area right next to the IKEA, pleasant, leafy, plenty of space, good facilities, bus to local centre where many other buses go from.

Thanks for that. We are trying to avoid Hamburg as we are heading up the North Sea coast & then onto
Denmark. On our return, we may come back through Hamburg so may look at one of those 3 then. Thanks again!
