I managed to dent the motorhome..... a second of distraction and not paying enough attention, totally my fault. I don't suppose I'm the only one to have done this.

The damage is limited to the habitation door and may require a new door. I hope it won't cost too much as I don't want to make an insurance claim.

I managed to dent the top rear offside of the van a couple of months ago in Sicily, must have caught a cut branch when leaving a site without realising as I only found it at the next site. After 30 minutes ranting at myself I calmed down and put it down to experience. Now when I get back to England and get the bill for the repair I might rant at myself again, until then I have put it to the back of my mind where it is keeping company with the England football team.(y)

Thanks SMB. At least no one was hurt. Just dreading the cost of the repair.

The gate into our drive is tight and I didn't take the turn quite square enough.

Know how you feel. I followed sat nav in France ( I know, I know--- stupid but there was also a sign saying Camping) Took me onto a track which ended in a field. Couldn't turn, couldn't reverse ( huge stone wall to one side of track ) farmer said I could cross field, I'd get onto a bitumen road in a few hundred metres. He forgot to mention the muddy bog with low lying trees in between me and that road....
It rained that night---inside my van. Went home the next day and had the TV aerial put back in place and sealed :(

Hope your door can be fixed-- at least no one injured.

You are the first to self harm your motorhome.

Hab doors are from £4K to £8K depending on make.

When I bought my first GSXR1000 in 2001, I decided to wash it after it's first run out.

So put paddock stand under rear wheel and hoist under exhaust downpipes to lift front wheel off floor as well.

When I walked to garage I heard a sickening crunching sound. Yes, the bike had fallen over. 3 days old. :crying:

I ran over to pick it up, but couldn't as the paddock stand was jammed. So I had to put it back on the floor to pull stand out. :crying::crying:

Wasn't a happy bunny. :crying::crying::crying:

But it was my company bike so repairs were put through the books

Oh thats a shame Helen. I know its your pride and joy and I would be gutted If I damaged ours but on the positive side as mum would say..no one was injured, a door can be replaced or mended, a life cant.
You should get Martin to widen your gate, I would have to agree it is very tight.

If it's £4 to £8 K then it would have to be an insurance job.

Martin will be widening the gate - next door like it narrow so vans don't reverse up onto the drive. The gate is rotten anyway and will be replaced. Maybe when we replace the gate we'll widen it up a foot or so.

depending on the damage its often possible to "re-skin" the door, by bonding a new sheet of aluminium over the top of the damage. perhaps a photo would help to give a better idea of cost. if its a whole new door, which comes with frame, its should be under £2000. a repair from about £200 upwards

Depending on the damage, we have used a company called Plastic surgeon. A tin fell out of the cupboard and dinked the worktop. They gave us a brochure and it showed repairs to the side of a caravan, the damage looking pretty dire but the repair looked amazing.
We were very impressed with their service, the speed at which they came out and the price ;) They do ALL sorts of repairs….check out their website

Good luck.

Don't beat yourself up it's done now, just widen the gate, and fingers crossed it won't be to expensive. Good luck sorting it out.

I've been told it is resin and can probably be repaired - but that was from photos and not an actual physical inspection. The decals are easy to get - or I can paint them back in myself if necessary.

I dented a MH last year. Fortunately it was one loaned to me for a trial drive! I did buy one off them later so they are speaking to me now.

Good luck.

I've sent an enquiry. They say they are nationwide so hope they do include Scotland! None of the other companies I have asked have responded.

Decals are just over £40. I could match in with paint anyway as I've done quite a bit of art on vehicles (usually scrap vehicles with young artists).

Anything less than £1,000 would be a relief.

I've had a good look and it looks more like aluminium than resin to me.

an easy repair job...as you say, decals are going to be the hardest part. however if you get a vinyl specialist to make a duplicate set, the filled part will be completely hidden on the bottom gouge. so probably £200 to repair and paint, plus about £200 for the vinyl
