van conversion
Hi guys,

I'm stuck between the two fans? Anyone got any helpful advice. Its mainly for the dogs to stay cool. It needs to be able to run in all weather and be reliable.

Thanks
Ash

MaxxFan in my opinion (had one for 3 years).

It can be used in the rain and is quiet enough (on low settings) to run all night.

Ours is rarely switched off. Was originally fitted to keep our dog cool and works a treat.

One of the best things we have fitted.

I’ve been researching the same myself and came to the conclusion that the Maxxfan is a better design as it can by used in the rain, whereas the Fantastic fan with the rain sensor turns itself off and lowers the lid if it rains

This video might help. I made it after using the fan for a year or so:

My latest van came with three Maxxfan's factory fitted, and I have been supplying and installing Fantastic Fans since the early Nineties when we imported them from the States ourselves

The Maxxfan is much much better!

More modern design, quieter and we rarely close them unless it is biting cold

Maxxfan - but try getting hold of one atm, at a reasonable price, or, find a supplier with stock.

I'm waiting until winter when hopefully more stock and less demand

We replaced the aircon unit with a Maxxfan as it was never used - we hardly ever use hookup. In the relatively short time we've had it fitted it's been used many many times more and is much more effective than the air-con. Do remember that it does not actively cool the air but the continuous breeze, eithe input or extraction, to us is more effective. Not much impressed with the optional blind and LED lights but they work as intended.

And I sold the aircon unit for the cost of the Maxxfan..................................!

Yes, I had a bit of a struggle with supply too. From around 6/7 suppliers only one had what I wanted (Smoke).

I see some winston cells in the background of the vid. Are you using them in the van? If any, what bms have you chose and how balanced are they keeping.
Thank you.

Hi Raul

I've had the Winston cells now for 3 years and I use a 123BMS. I'm fulltime and use about 1.5kw per day, so around a full cycle every 3 days (I have 400Ah).

My cells are almost always within 0.01-0.02v of each other and balance every few days exactly (when they reach the set voltage).

I also have the 123 SmartRelay. Really happy with the 123 stuff.

You can deactivate the rain sensor on the Fantastic vents Robert, from the remote. Not that I do to save the inevitable.

Did you get them from GWL in Czech republic?
I would have, but GWL were out of stock when I ordered. So mine came straight from Winston (which is no cheaper).

I know loads that have ordered from GWL - seem a good company to deal with.

Eddie,

Is there any plan for Vanbitz to stock, supply and fit the Maxxfan in the near future?
Vanbitz have carried out all my other work, so it would be preferable to continue with the service....

Cheers

Great video, very informative and well made.

Need to measure the existing units to see if one can be swapped now.

What are the electrical connections required - just a 12v feed?

No sorry, it’s one of those products that we use ourselves, but don’t want to sell

There is a limit as to how many things we stock and install, and the price varies dramatically on the internet, which is another reason.

Like all things American, the full range is available, with spares delivered to the UK from www.Amazon.com

Another vote for the Maxxfan.

Even as a supplementary kitchen extract fan, this thing can extract from 6-7ft away.
