You aren’t seriously expecting a lady to go in your motorhome are you?

..... but there's no harm in trying is there. It's simply someone looking for friendship it's a new situation arisen from terribly sad circumstances ... good luck to the op ... just read the sensible advice above and you'll be fine.

Yes im very serious.. we men are not all just out for one thing. This is after all the moden age where a woman has and can demand the same rights as men... and in my opinion that age is well over due....
Yes im still looking for a lady .... who has the guts to do it ...

My thoughts too, being in a motorhome together 24/7 isn't always easy even when you're part of a long established couple. @J&S Being in a similar situation I do understand and wish you well. Not sure that you will find her on this forum though to be honest as most will likely be part of a couple or have a van herself I guess?

And as sdc77 says no harm in trying :)

When I first started motorhoming, I had a man-friend who also had a motorhome.

We used to meet at sites roughly equidistant from where we lived, enjoy each other's company but had our own space to retreat to.

I've recently been talking to some motorhomers who are in the Phoenix Camping Club that organises meets for singles.

We met a British man and woman at Dune de Pilat, as I understand and remember it, they had met up on the road in separate motorhomes and were then heading south for the winter together (but in their own vans).

The woman’s van had at some point suffered a catastrophic failure, and they had agreed to carry on the journey together in the man’s van. As far as I could tell, that was the extent of their relationship, but one doesn’t like to pry!

John. I wish you every success with your search but would suggest instead of going in at the deep end with a winter away, just try for experimental weekends away, perhaps not too far from the lady's home so she wouldn't feel trapped.

Good idea from ican't remember. There are some weirdos out there. You can think you know someone until you get alone behind a motorhome door ... PLEASE be careful. Don't be so desperate to recreate something that cannot be so that you put yourself in the hands of someone unscrupulous.

As an afterthought to my previous post ... Some years ago we were on an escorted tour around Bordeaux along with around 15 other moho's, one of which was a couple who obviously didn't know each other before the tour ... after a couple of days they were not speaking and sat apart at meals and coach tours ... most times we saw her she was in tears.

Yes .. I've seen that more than once .... zlso seen on a couple of occasions the panic as one or other tries to book train tickets home asap.

Life and friendships can be good @J&S .. better than a bad relationship.

About 4 decades back allowed a work colleague to talk me into taking him along on a trip down to Italy , where I was going to sort out a Spanish spec mini owned by my American uncle (USAF) stationed in Italy . I was then going on to Lake Garda , to meet up with parents and another aunt and uncle holidaying there .
Long story short , ended up putting him on a train in Bolzano and paying his fare !

@J&S

You lost your wife very recently. Personally, I think you'd be better giving it more time to deal with the grief, I'm 18mths down the line and only recently starting to feel some sort of normality.

In the mean time I've been on lots of meets and been away quite a bit on my own too. It's been a real rollercoaster. The support and friendship from other funsters and friends has been amazing and helped me to cope.

I don't mean to offend but it's about learning to live a different life and it takes time, please think about taking the van out on your own a few times.

On and off for many years.
I know a few widows and widowers who have chummed up to make use of their resources and talents. She (usually but not always) will cook and sew on buttons whilst he does some DIY and gardening. I only know of one couple who became a couple but all the rest were good friends. Nothing worse than having to cook for one all the time......

Hope that goes well for you both, John :)

I have been travelling in my van for 15 years on my own - with a dog or 4!! I am heading to Spain next February when I retire. I also belong to the Single Camping Caravan and Motorhomers on Facebook, which I have found good - although I joined this group as I like to avoid Facebook most of the time. There are 2 rallies coming up. One walking in Derbyshire 6 to 8 July and a Cider Festival 10 to 14 August.

I was sailing back from Santander and there was a lady with her dog spent most of the time on the dog deck. She told me she had booked a holiday with a guy she had only just met and they didn't get on for long. She left him in their cabin to avoid him. Hotels not motorhome though.
