Mt fan-tastic ceiling fan has a motorised dome which hasn`t worked for a couple of years, so I adapted it to be able to open it manually.
This has been ok, but it annoys me that it doesn`t work properly.
So with more time on my hands I decided to look into the problem.
The motor works when bench tested, but in situ when it should work it just jolts then stops.
I checked the voltage and it`s reading 9.4 volts, the motor is labelled as 12 volts.
Leisure batteries are fully charged at 13.4 volts.
So it looks like I`m missing some volts, which I presume is why the motor doesn`t work.
Does anyone have any idea what could cause the loss of volts ? there is a small pcb.
TIA

Could be any number of things. Corroded wiring, dicky connection on one or more terminal, broken wire, etc, etc. I suggest testing the voltage at the wires you wish to connect to in the roof, but this will not tell you the whole story. If there is excess resistance due to corrosion or a dicky wire/terminal, then it simply won’t carry the required current.

The seal can create just enough resistance to stop it, probably thermo cut out, the seal sticks to the frame with heat and time. Well thats what happens to mine and I have had 6 on 3 different vans over the last 9 years and I have a practice to release them then they work fine for the rest of the time. But you seem to suggest that it will open without effort manually. Do I have that correct? The small PCB is the rain sensor nothing special, which if dirty can cause an issue.

Maybe re try the ‘bench’ test in situ, but using temporary cables directly back to the battery.

This could possibly rule in or out the sticking seal and damaged cable theories.
