Been moho’ing for a time now
We haven’t used the moho since October last year, started it up in February, quite a few dash lights came on ??, fuel filter light, the anti traction light (?) and the the abs light, I tried checking all the fuses but they were all ok, I asked a lot questions, but no real answers, so today at the mot, it failed and the mot man told me that the front abs cables had either been chewed through or cut, after looking at the damage and being an retired electrician it was only too obvious that they had been cut with side cutters or pliers ?? Another repair job, probably some little scrote in the area

Some jealous little git

Some ‘lovely’ people out there!

Dash lights are most likely due to a battery needing a decent charge/replacement

Squirrels are really good at clean cuts!
Caused about extensive damage to my friends 8 month old BMW not once but twice.
Everyone was convinced it was malicious damage, on the second occasion CCTV footage taken and guess who did it. Furry tree rat, revenge was taken.

We had something similar when we lived in Germany but it was certainly a small creature that had chewed though a cable. We noticed something was up when we were on our way to Greece driving down the autobahn when I looked at the dash and noticed the engine temperature had gone up to maximum. Cut a long story short, turned out a cable had been nibbled, probably a pine marten, and nearly cost us missing our ferry. When we got home we found that some neighbours had not been so lucky and the sweet little creatures had caused extensive damage to some high spec Mercs and BMWs. From what you have said this sounds like malicious vandalism that could have resulted in a very serious accident.

Yeah doesn't sound like something a vandal or somebody with a grudge would do. Still crap for you but I wouldn't worry about it being malicious. All fixable and it'll soon have a fresh coat of MOT.

I have a mate that lives a little lower than Hamburg, in a forest, he quite regularly gets visits from pine martins, his daughter had a nice Mercedes car and they got under the bonnet and chewed all the sound proofing for a nest

Hi Jim, on the drive 😡🤬
As said ,probably squirrels.its annoying but as an ex leccy I am sure you can rewire the chewed wires/ cables. Maybe interesting to put up a CCTV cos they will come back. Unless you put some other wires on a spare battery so they have a little shock rather like an electric fence.

No rodent can chew through a steel cable.
In my years as a leccy, you’d be surprised what they chew through and the dangers to them don’t bear thinking about 😝
Jim boho like

No, sorry, both cables front left and right abs cables, both have been cut, still drivable but no abs.

A rat or scribble may bite cleanly through an electric wire but it won't stop there, it will chew the wires to get the outer sheath ....they love it.
If the broken wire ends are clean cut it wasn't vermin.

Both sides are a clean cut, as if done by pliers or side cutters, we’re away for the next week so I’ll see if I can fix them

We’re off about 9.00 in the morning, and we’ve still got to pack the fridge/freezer so I doubt that I’ll have time tomorrow, but I’ll try, I want evidence for my records, in the mean time thanks for all the reply’s and thoughts

Wild life is great as long as it’s only on the telly, haha
or it has a penchant for BMW's and Merc's,;) wildlife never goes near my 12 year old Corsa Van unless of course its waving bye bye stuck to the front bumper.

Which 'steel' cable are you referring to?

The OP's ABS wires will be copper wire and no struggle for any decent rodent.

Geoff
Sorry but the OP used the word "cables" not "wires". In my experience cables (as in handbrake) are usually steel.

Seems odd to me I would expect anyone minded to cause damage to key the paintwork etc not get underneath and cut wires then again I'm not that sort of person so might not know

Here's piccies of the cables, not very good as the sun was in my eye (yes we've got sun in Essex today), I'll take some more later

sorry being a "leccy" they ARE cable's , the same as most people call lamps bulbs, you plant bulbs, you install lamps;)(y)

Sorry but I can't see any cut cables in the pics .Maybe I need to view them on my pc and not the phone.

Fix the cables and add braided steel sleeving to prevent a repeat

Seems a very bizarre thing to cut deliberately. I’d make the assumption that it was “something else” and just replace the ABS sensor cables then get on with life.

Agreed! It’s like the confusion between bottles and cylinders. Drinks come in bottles, gas comes in pressurised cylinders… 😏
