Have had a Faculty X wifi box for a few years and worked OK. trouble is new windows 8.1 laptop wont recognise it. I contacted them and they sent me link after I sent photo of internal gubbins....

this was the reply:

"That looks like the ralink so you need the RT307X driver for windows machines from here:"

Hi Eddie, Don't see why you need drivers if it's a wifi router (I have the Alfa R36) surely you connect via a browser via the wifi or a cat5 cable.

Hi Lenny surprised to see you over her!lol missing me? :)

The box you have seems to be well supported with lots of info on net including idiot proof YouTube videos..unfortunately nothing for my old box that I can find :(

this is the box..I know others have it as well as have seen other threads

He's using it as a USB antenna without a wifi hub so needs software, he's too tight to buy the repeater

Get yourself one of these, cheap works a treat I've picked up signals 2 miles away, I've recommended them to several people all have been surprised at the results.

How easy is it to use plse

Very, if your interested I'll check on drivers for win 8, I had to find some for XP, the disc that comes with it is in gobble de gook.

can you plug that straight in to a laptop or do you need a routeras well?

Have you tried updating the driver through device manager, right click, update driver ??

Yes can plug straight in to a laptop, I often do that to check for signals as it's quicker than messing about with the router, then I have to set the router up so SWMO can use one of those stupid useless expensive web browsers they call an ipad.

have managed to ID the chipset? by borrowing a pair of younger eyes....

Ralink RT 3070 L
P3P1700F9

can this work with windows 8.1

Mediatek (who now own Ralink) driver from their site that is listed for Win 8, doesn't't work properly. I borrowed a Win8 PC this morning to have a play. I've emailed Mediatek to see if they have an answer.
