Following my recent post on "This Week I Bought"........
...... Broken Link Removed......
I have now used the kit on my toad (04 Ford Ka Luxury) which had no maintenance on the air-con since new, so 10 years.

Once you have decided which is the "low pressure" port on the system the process is very simple and instructions easy to follow, but there are a number of safety procedures which are vital to avoid injury.

On this vehicle when I first connected the gauge the pressure reading was around 16psi, so not completely empty, and after emtying a full cylinder it had risen to 32psi, which is in the reported operational zonealthough still a little below max.

I don't have a digital thermometer so difficult for me to say by how much this has improved the cooling efficiency.

My next task will be the motorhome (Peugeot Boxer 3.0L) sometime in the next few days and will report back on this thread.

The only downside for me is that the Ka has so far used a complete cylinder which is advertised as sufficient for up to three recharges. This may be better on the m/h which is only four years and should not require so much gas.

For anyone considering this job there are useful videos on you tube.

I have tried this in the past and not had great results. I still have the valve jobby somewhere in my mancave. The think is, when aircon specialists re-gas a car they vacuum the old gas and air out. They put a pre-measured weight of gas plus oil into the system, not relying on pressure which will vary with temperature etc. They also apply a vacuum which is held for a time to detect leaks.

In winter most places like quickfit will do a regas for £20 if you haggle.
