I would first check out the age of your current battery as it would have an impact on any addition. Also what type :- Gel/AGM or Wet Flooded.
Other Hymer owners should be able to help with the physical fitting for you.
Phil.

Batties are fairly close so no need for a fuse, Hymer don't fit one when they do it

Depends what size the starter cables are.
If you mean "jump leads" then you can get cheap chinese ones that I wouldn't trust to jump a scooter and then pro jobbies designed to start trucks. It's no good looking at the size of red and black plastic, you need to pull the gland back (ooh err) on the crock clip and look at the size of the copper core.

On quality cable, :gum: the size “should” be stamped on the outer insulation. Please note the words quality and should. :emo:

That is an 80Ah Gel battery. It's best to fit one that's exactly the same type (Gel), and about the same capacity (80 Ah at the 20 hr rate). Use wire that is just as thick, or slightly thicker than, the existing battery wires. If the starter cables are like this then using them to connect the batteries will be fine, if you fix proper battery connections onto them.

If it was mine I would fit a big fuse at each end of the positive interconnecting cable, but some people might think that's a bit OTT.

Trace the wiring from the plug / socket before you do anything. It just might be a connection across to the passenger seat for another battery - unlikely I know but I'm struggling to think what vehicle-related sttuff it might be for. The only thing that springs to mind is heated seats.

If using jump cables you the heavy duty ones where the conductor is many strands of fine copper. Cheap ones are often aluminium and will be useless. Probably better & cheaper to buy the right cable.

You might find the following site useful as it rates cable by the amperage it is capable of carrying as well as the size.
