I've purchased a cover from a very reputable dealer on the south coast. It was made in Italy specifically for the Fiat Ducato - mine is a 2017 registered model. The first one was damaged by hail stones. Luckily the manufacturer replaced it foc! Neither of them has fitted properly, neither covering the screen fully, nor around the wing mirrors.

Please can anyone recommend what I should buy as a replacement? I'm aware of the debate around internal or external covers. I've used both in the past and prefer the external version.

We've always used Tayolmade. Caroline is very helpful.

The other popular recommendation is Silverscreens.

Minster products. Very good covers and easy to deal with them. Sorry haven’t got their website details but mr or Mrs Google have it!We
We purchased ours a few months back from Minster for our Fiat Ducato 21 plate. External covers fit like a dream with the fold down flap added. Great service and a great price.(y) Link below.

Taylormade for us too.
Bought eight years ago and has fitted two coachbuilt Ducato's and now a PVC with no problem or obvious signs of wear.

We've got Taylormade on our current van after previously having Silver Screens on all our other vans. I have to say the TM fit is not as good as the SSs.
Earlier, during our French tour, we experienced some extremely strong winds with the temperatures down below zero.
There was no way I could fasten the TMs to stop them flapping themselves to bits so I had to take them off. I used straps, bungees and gaffer tape but still they flapped loud enough to keep us awake.
I remember experiencing similar strength winds in our Hobby on a tiny airfield near Exmoor where I had to move the van nose into wind to stop it rocking so much and the SS covers we had were fine.
After contacting TM for suggestions on the best thing to do in very strong winds, they said to take them off.

Hindermann screen cover, insulated and very effective in both screening sun and keeping the van cool, and insulating against the cold. We bought ours in 2018, and have used it extensively, including on the windscreen during heatwaves on the drive to protect the interior. Still in excellent condition.

Dont know where you can purchase them though.

I've just bought this, hopefully OK?

Polar screens by Minster Products. I hate it when folk call them the generic term silver screens. They come in other colours too. I like black :giggle::giggle:

Ive tried many types of screen covers from expensive ones to cheap ones and there isnt really a lot in it between them for thermal protection. Even the cheap external screen covers I currently sell still do the job. Now im not saying that you shouldnt go for expensive ones if you are going to be at -20 degrees but Ive tested the cheap ones at +35 and even sold some to ice cream van owners!
If you are buying screen covers for use in storage the silver ones can be easily damaged by bird poop or tree sap so cheap ones are a better option for this purpose as they still stop UV completely as well as keeping the temperature down.

I noticed you bought the thermal blinds from Magnum Motorhomes. Did they fit ok and would they fit with Remis blinds. What year is your van as the pictures show a van pre 2014 and mine is 2015 with the narrower headlights. (Other than the headlights not sure if there is any difference in size). As I want to leave them on whist at home so will be on for a while.

Thanks
Trevor

I’m sure I’ve read on some of the manufacturers websites that they don’t advise leaving the external thermal blinds in situ for long(ish) periods of time, due to slight movement caused by high winds damaging the paint finish.

Yes. That is the case with the Minster product. It's a shame. I've reverted to putting normal silver car sun screens inside the front screen when the vehicle is not being used. In my opinion not as good as an external screen, but every little helps.

We inherited this Optima screen cover with our 2017 Ducato and while the fit is ok I’m very disappointed that the edging strip is disintegrating.

That’s the issue we had on our old van, where the magnets in the cover sat on the body, they had marked the paint due to movement, the marks were too large to polish out.

on our new van, if we use the cover - an Optima - I intend to cover the areas the magnets touch with clear film as used to protect the front of vehicles.

or just buy a different type.
