extend solar panel leads (1 Viewer)

the leads on solar panel are not long enough i would like to increase them 3 metres there is a plastic pull apart connecter on the lead ithought if i could buy 2 more like it and a new cable it would be ok but cant find connecters in shops anybody with help

I always chop those damn things off. Being a belt and braces (albeit over engineered) I solder the cables together, fit a connector block then wrap the lot in self amalgamating tape...

I really should do a neater job though as I was taught how to do proper joints as part of my Apprenticeship. Can't be arsed these days though...

I don't see the point in spending good money on these MC4 connectors when el cheapo connector blocks work just as well and only cost pennies.

As above.. MC4, plenty on ebay so not hard to get...

Also, I'm with Gromett, chop em off.. If connection is inside the van then a conn block will do the job. If outside, make a good connection and weather seal, either with amalgamating tape or in a weatherproof box..

waterproof connection box is the best option as you have to get through the roof somehow and what better than a waterproof box sealed to the roof.
