Just found out that for entry to EU; if the Rabies vaccine has expired the next dose is treated as a new primary dose and the blood test after 30 days and then 3 months wait from that kicks in again. So 4 months minimum from the jab date to entry to EU.
The DEFRA site doesn't say anything useful about going to the EU, just about coming back into the UK when re-testing after a late booster isn't required unless you come from an 'unlisted country'.
The chapter and verse for EU entry seems to be here; http://data.europa.eu/eli/reg/2013/576/oj
The relevant sections are in chapter III (section 1, article 10) and Annexes III and IV

I am not convinced it makes any biological sense but as we know Politics trumps Science every time.

That has always been the case & also why when vaccinated there is a
1) " date of vaccination"
2)"date vaild from"
3) "date valid until"
which means you have to revaccinate before date 3)

When you start off first date 2) is always 21 days after date 1) annexe iii ,2;(d),
but date 3) is the same as date1) but either 1 year on ,here in spain, or 3 years if in the UK.

Richard, the regs you have quoted are from 2013 which are just in the Lexicon section but they are not the current requirements as the blood test was scrapped yonks ago.

This is the requirement now:

Hi Mel,
Well I will be delighted if you are correct as it will save me a load of money, but;

The website you reference does not go into any detail, just says you should not revaccinate after the expiry date of the previous rabies vaccine.
That page references source documents, the first of which is the document I link to above.
This is the Eur-lex document which is the official reference for EU law. Although the regulations were laid down in 2013 they are still marked “in force”. They don’t seem to have changed since, although their application to the UK has changed since Brexit.
The regulations make it clear that a late vaccination is regarded as a primary vaccination and needs blood tests and the time delay repeated
The Animal Health Certificate completed by the vet also says that the blood test doesn’t need repeating if the booster was given before the expiry of the previous vaccine. The corollary is that the bloods are needed if it had expired.

I sincerely hope you can give me chapter and verse to show why I am wrong!

Okay, here goes!

Firstly if you choose the country you are travelling from this is the info given as to what is required:

Then going to the 2013 document it states the below, Section I, Article 10, 1.(c) is the one we're querying:

Then Article 12 states:

Which refers to Article 13:

So ... as the UK does what is required in Article 13 we do not have to have the blood (titration) test carried out.
