Hi gang! We’re heading for Southern France in a few weeks time and want to stop around 4pm in a nice spot near Millau on or close to E11/A75. I‘m looking for a small town/village with an Aire/parking for our 7m Autotrail Apache. Ideally the spot should have a Boulangerie, somewhere local to grab dinner and a bar full of locals. What experiences/recommendations do you guys have?

TIA!

Russ

The available apps show lots of stops.

Millau, plenty of sites.

Bar and full is unusual in France..BUSBY.

In my experience most French bars away from the tourist hot spots are busy in morning and lunchtime with some catering for those on way home from work; but by 7 many are closed. To eat in the evening often requires a restaurant rather than a bar. Smaller villages are often very quiet after 7pm.

We stayed at this site for 4 nights as it was august & walked over t hff e bridge. But so much to see & do in & around Milau.lots of aries but it's very popular.

Good idea to go througj Millau anyway as bridge toll is a bit hefty. Ok Aires and plenty of cheap campsites, very pretty Gorges du Tarn on your doorstep

How much is the bridge? its on my route this year, really fancy it, i dont no the cost to me cut off point to avoid it if too expensive.

Can’t remember exactly but €14 and some cents for Class 2 when we used it recently.

Classe 2 €14 classe 3 €31

This is a useful site for toll costs

Light vehicle - car and caravan is classe 2
Heavy vehicle - 2 axle truck is classe 3

Michelin do something similar but the Asfa one seems more accurate.

This is a great route planning map, showing toll and non toll

Camping Car Park La Cavalerie, just South of Millau, small walled town with a bakery within the walls.

We stayed here a couple of weeks ago. It’s good for a stop over on the way south as close to the motorway. You can walk around the town walls, but unfortunately the walk way was closed when we were there.

There is another aire if your brave enough 😊 for the hill descent approach from the N'ish Compregnac free and rustic long drop toilet. But the views especially on a clear night are fantastic, we're 6.5m and no prob couple of French vans later bigger than us..

But no bars or restaurants, how we like it. Listed as a dark sky's site.

And by-pass the toll 😋

That one is going in the memory bank for next time, Thanks

The aire at Compregnac near Peyre is fantastic. Near to the Millau bridge. This is the view.

The aire at Compregnac sounds lovely. I thought I'd bookmark it on S4S, but sadly, the latest review states that a 2m height barrier has been installed :( .

Going overthe Bridge is very disappointing as it has highglass side so not much of a view come of before and drive down the gorge to millau betterviews and the bridge looks better from below
