Motorhoming since 2018.
Or at least I think that's what its called.

Having washed down ready for workshop on Monday, with the beast from the east 2 on its way I decided to drain down the water system, however there is still some water in the expansion vessel (see images). Can someone explain how to drain this, vessel please.

Thanks.

Since 2015, still learning
I would throw a towel round it / insulate it if that’s all that is in your system. If adventurous you could drain by by disconnecting the push fit connections and mop up the spill.

if that head of water indicates that there is water in all pipes below it then it may need more of a drain. Do you run the pump briefly in your drain-down?

might be worth unscrewing the clear plastic bulb off the inlet filter if freezing temps inside are likely

You've got the drain valve open, remove the filter bowl and run the pump should empty it. Put a towel or something to catch the water under the filter.

Leave the pump switched on and turn on all the taps until gurgling noises are heard. it shouldn't hurt the pump at all.

I checked this morning, all pipes etc, including the water tank are empty. Once all the water has ran out of the drain taps I take off the shower head and blow through the pipe until I cant hear any water gurggling. I think I do as suggested by CUSH and wrap the vessel and small filter in some cloth as insulation.

What are you insulating it from? It will all be at the same temperature eventually unless you are providing heating somewhere.

IRHP I was thinking along the lines of the type of thing you might do if you had an exposed water pipe or tank in your loft at home, you would wrap both in pipe insulation and tank jacket. in this case wrap the vessel on wooly socks or the like.

Yes but they are getting fed with new water which is a bit warmer. Also the tank in your lift contains a lot of water so it takes a lot longer to cool. Insulating could keep it from freezing if the temp in the lift drops overnight but is warmer duribg the day. If you had a bottle of water in a freezer and you insulated it, it would still freeze not as quick as an uninsulated one but it would still freeze. My van is pretty well insulated but the week before Xmas it was still -5 inside.
