happened to me once in the boating world and heard of many other people doing it, you get all ready and set off only to return and see your orange mooring rope dangling in the water having tripped your pontoon electrics. Not done it myself yet, as have not had the pleasure off our first trip out but has anyone driven off forgetting to unhook there electric hookup ???

Yep managed to do it on the drive probably because we hardly ever plug in so didn't even think about, damage the inlet socket soon fixed with a bit of epoxy, did lash out 15 quid on a new inlet before I sold the van.

Fire engines often have a charging cable and a vent pipe on the exhaust which automatically disconnect when they start moving. Maybe an opportunity for someone to start making them for motorhomes (does still mean you have to go back and pick the cable up though)
Why don't the converters have an alarm if ignition switched on whilst mains plugged in?

I've not done it but I have started the engine while on hook up and was immediately deafened by an alarm and a warning on the display telling me I was still connected.

Watched a caravanner many years ago jump into his car and reverse off his pitch, closely followed by a small television still connected to his car battery, a lot of glass fragments and the remains of his van front window surround.

Never done it (yet) at home or on site, but I'm quite anal about leaving my pitch clean & tidy for the next user, so I always go right round the outside of the van, as well as checking under it.

Done it once at home, that's when I discovered the inbuilt ignition/EHU alarm only sounds when the power to the cable is switched on.

I drove off a site in Cornwall which had overhead electric pylons in our then Auto Sleeper Gatcombe, looked in the mirrors and the fellow that had organised the meet was chasing after us waving his arms wildly.
I pulled up to see what was the matter and he said your the biggest dodgem car I've ever seen, I had only driven off with a 6 metre flag pole zip tied to the rear ladder.

John.

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.

Why don't the converters have an alarm if ignition switched on whilst mains plugged in?

Ambulances have the same system, the cable actually ejects & with some force. Its a kinda curly cable that dangles from the ceiling. Trouble is that having them on a moho would mean losing the cable as it'd be left behind, unless you heard it being ejected.

For those of us that perhaps can't picture or imagine the system, it's very like the way the plug shot out the back of an old fashioned electric kettle when you switched it on with too little or no water! Can't think how I knew that kettles did that!:ROFLMAO:
