With the advent of a vaccination for Covid, I started looking at the Eurotunnel for next year using the online booking system. It says that the maximum weight is 3500 and motorhomes over this should use the commercial site. Go there and say you're a motorhome and it says go back.

I'm kind of curious as to what people do when their MH has been up rated to 3850?

11yrs, but many years a tugger.
You have to ring up. Ours is 10m long and weighs 10.5tons and never had any trouble. Coaches are on as well so a simple phone call to make your booking is the only way. :gum:

I don't think you do - it's just you need to recognise that you're not a van, you're a camper van in their terminology. (Having said all of which, we usually book by phone because we generally pay by Tesco vouchers!)

If they are asking your weight you are on the wrong booking site, campervan is all you need. (y)

Be careful as it sounds like you are not on the genuine chunnel site, but one of those 'cheap' booking sites that are anything but cheap !!!

The 3.5t used to be for cars i think, also there's a height limit when booking a car.

For a camper i've never seen any restrictions.

Morning all. I've had a reply from Eurotunnel confirming what has been said in this thread:

Further to your query we can confirm that the 3,5 tones limit weight is applicable for vans only and you would be able to travel on our passenger with your Motorhome as long as this is not capable of running on any flammable gas and as long as your are not transporting any commercial goods.

It's not particularly clear (for me) on the booking side of the website but it's all good.

As I and Jaws said make sure you are on the proper Eurotunnel site not a booking site.
This is the one you want

I think you are proly over thinking it ( which I have a habit of doing ! )
Get on a web site and once you start down the wrong road ( so to speak ) it all get really unclear and baffling :)

Not just me then.

It's a long time since we use the tunnel but I have had quotes from them and as soon as I select "campervan" all is easy. If I don't it is very confusing. I think they need to know so they can make sure you are in the correct bit of the train.

Have a great trip.

I had exactly the same issue when i booked for the first time with our 4.5t motorhome i didn’t think the site was very clear and panicked when i saw the limit as 3.5t but i booked anyway as a camper and everything was fine just need to make sure you follow the signs for the single deck when you get to the tunnel port But it is all well signed.
