I follow Eurotunnel on Twitter and have done for some while. It is often more accurate then Eurotunnel itself, real time info. Looking at Twitter, the service appears to be getting worse with constant delays. Funsters, please tell me that this isn’t going to be the future of crossings. I had 2 horrific crossings this year and as a result am using the ferries more. The tunnel has many benefits but the delays and lack of info has completely ruined my experiences recently. On the upside, I intend to retire from my school job in July so I can holiday whenever I want :xlaugh::xlaugh:

3 times this year always on time or early..the last one back tho...rattle bump.thought it was gonna. Jump off he bloomin rails..spliilng my ritual brew and tuna sandwich all over lol.

Thanks for the twitter tip though..I'll add them

I have a house in Frane and used to regularly use Eurotunnel. 90% of the time it was great- it was the 10% of times that has stopped me using it- when Eurotunnel goes wrong, it goes wrong big time. In these instances it appears to be chaotic and no staff are able to offer even the remotest explanation of when you may have the pleasure of boarding.

Generally anytime there is a "peak" date or season- technical troubles start to appear/ air con isn't working so they can only run at 50% capacity/ toilets are out of order etc. As I say, the 10% of bad experiences were so bad that I will not use it again.

Irish ferries for me everytime. Always had a good service, not busy, cheap. As long as you are not in a rush, which as motorhome trips are holidays I'm not then I can't see the advantage of a motorhome. I prefer to be out in fresh air, wandering around, shopping for duty free etc than sitting in a carriage. Also the tunnel isn't massively quicker taking into account arrival time, passport control, loading etc.

On dogs, which is often used as a reason for using the tunnel, I saw a passenger walking around the ferry with his dog on my last trip.

Hi.
Twice this year. Coming over to uk. " DAY earlier Rang them " Where are you ?"...Me " In Calais " Them " Can you be here in 40 mins, use the old numbers... ? ".... YES...Got there,ON and away we went. Coming back. had last fling at Setthorns New Forest, love it. Jingled down to stop at " Black Horse " site, ready for OFF next morning. Rang them, they were closed,so rang the Tunnel...... " Get here, book you and the dog in on the old numbers, first train...your on it ".
Allways had good service, even when Jennifer had forgotten her Passport and we had it Couriered from Santa Comba dao to the Civic ? centre Marie ? as soon as it arrived,we were on and off we went..
LOVE IT.
But then again. I would sooner WALK than come across the Bay of Biscuits. :ROFLMAO:
Tea Bag aka Landlubber. With a Sirstiffikate to prove it.
PS. Thank GOODNESS for Stergaron ? Tablets. They HAVE worked when being Pressganged into a Ferry Crossing.(y)

I avoid busy periods. Have to say the tunnel was brilliant at repatriating as C19 broke. My complaint is the journey is so short I don't have time for dessert.

Used the shuttle twice this year, no problems. My son who lives in France travelled yesterday, again, no problems.

As others have said, busy times are a nightmare, quiet less so. Ive started to book on flexiplus. Pricey but worth it for us. Not sure how they will cope with Biometric border checks though.

I would add that with everything being nearly 30 years old and very little investment since (certainly in rolling stock) you can expect problems.

I always said that, the loading process is a real PITA especially passport control and the gas checking (ferries never worry). Of the times we have travelled i would say 50% of the time there are delays especially from UK, I guess unlike ferries if there is a problem in the tunnel all services stop whereas ferries can still run whatever.

Never had a problem on the tunnel. Can‘t be beaten on speed if crossing at the a quiet time of day. Can’t remember the last time we have had time to turn the engine off apart from pet control, and that has been quick. Far far quicker than ferries.

I used to say exactly the same thing, then I had 3 really bad experiences on the trot ranging from 6- 8 hour delays. Its a shame as I used to love going by tunnel, but I think I am now mentally scarred and will not use it again.

We’re also restricted to school holidays, and have travelled at peak dates on several occasions. This year we saw a 1 hour delay on returning, which was not too bad.

Tunnel every time for us - leave camp site outside Dover at 6am, kids still in pyjamas, onto the tunnel train and we have breakfast and the kids get dressed as we cross. Works a treat every time.

Night crossing for us, not silly late but 8-9pm, hour ish the other side and wake to being already on holiday. Better time to do m25 too. All staff at tunnel just wave us through. Doing it again Boxing Day.

We have been going later recently, normally the 8-00pm then we are at Gravelines for about 10-00pm good start for next day.
