Received a marketing survey from Eurotunnel today which I completed in about 20 minutes and it shows the potential thinking behind how they will price crossings going forward and does not look ideal.

The main options seem to be a lower cost ticket for a specific train with no changes allowed otherwise they are looking at higher priced options and surcharges to pay for priority boarding, priority access to Passport Control.

Other questions were about charging for Length (they already do this), Height of Vehicle and number of occupants.

There were no questions on the Frequent Traveller Scheme and based on the screenshots I doubt thats coming back.

Might be worth raising that if you complete the survey.

Got to the bit where they want me to tell them what I think the fares should be, for some reason they don’t think £1 is reasonable and they wouldn’t let me progress so i gave up. As bad as going to a garage for the “car expert” asking me how much my car is worth. My response is always the full market value.

I have also completed it, I got so disillusioned half way through, I went for some supper and came back to it :giggler:

I agree with the OP that it seems they are looking to change their pricing structure and not for the better.

We like the current option that you can get on an earlier train if available.

It's a shame if they don't bring back the frequent traveller tickets, just as we have got to the point of being able to travel more

Strange, I put in £1 and it accepted it.

Unless they reinstate frequent traveller we won't use Eurotunnel again , way too expensive.
Same here, even if they do I'm not sure as I doubt the prices will be anything like it was and the cost of taking pets is ridiculous - £22.50 per dog compared to £15 on ferries, it would cost me £67.50 for our 3 with ET and £45 on ferries, so an extra £22.50 on top of the ticket cost. At least using the last of the original ET FT tickets (which I bought off another funster) they held the pet price to £18 each so not too bad.

I've just done the survey too ... it was actually interesting in the way it was structured especially choosing the questions relating to best and worst, made you think.

It arrived in email this morning in two minds wether it worth the bother to complete it or not.
They have already decided and just ticking the customer’s were consulted box.
I disagree, you get to give your views on what prices would influence whether you went with them, how it is structured, the facilities and if you'd pay extra for them, if so how much etc. I've done a good few surveys in my time but very few go into that detail.

I think they missed a trick with the questions as I put in 12 return trips last year across the channel but only 3 on the tunnel and they did not ask why I had switched from exclusively tunnel only to Mainly ferry.

The people in marketing I don’t think they get it’s just a shuttle back and forth I just want the quickest and cost effective crossing not interested in all the extras like car valet ?

Perhaps if they are doing it whilst you queue for an hour to get through passport control I might consider it but otherwise in and out as quick as possible.

having tried the ferries Im using the tunnel for out and the ferry for home. Sure prices are more but its so much easier and saves the faff of Dover and saves about 30 miles

And that's each way yes? But the advantage is that you are with the dogs during the crossing so maybe worth that extra for us. On a more general note we would love to travel to Europe with our two dogs but this and the cost / hassle with the dreaded AHCs means we will be mainly restricting out ventures to the UK and kenneling the dogs for the odd short venture to Brugges, for example. Shame really. Yes I know we could try and get an EU pet passport when over there, and maybe we'll do that eventually.

We went out on the tunnel and came back on the ferry ... I stayed with the dogs on both ... :mask:

I’m trying to figure out why you pay per person and per dog.

No facilities are provided as you stay in your van do you not?

With the tunnel, I'd guess it's to pay for the buildings and staff required to check pets in.

A single vehicle crossing with ET as general rule allows up to 5 people in the price (obviously not motorbikes!) but we have to pay for the dogs on top, each dog is £22.50 per crossing thus 3 dogs comes to £67.50 on ET one way, on the ferry it's £15 per crossing so £45 for 3 dogs. For a return trip it would be 2 x £22.50 extra for ET making £45 more than on the ferry for the dogs, basically a third again. As the cost of the crossing itself is more expensive with ET it obviously impacts on the total cost, in effect using ET would cost us at least 30% more than the ferry.

They have a small dog exercise area which we don't use (which the ports tend to have too) and have a purpose made building for checking the dogs' PPs where you have to take the dogs in, wait in a queue with all the other yapping dogs (and some owners!), run the gauntlet of dog pee/poo. Having now used the ferry where you don't even have to take your dogs out to do the checks I much prefer the latter so other than you staying in your MH with your dogs during the crossing (and a shorter crossing) there's not a massive benefit for the high extra cost.

I don't use the tunnel anymore or P&O, Newhaven to Dieppe for me 20% off plus saves on fuel and driving re Calais plus half the price.Bill
Unless they bring back a 'sensible' version of the Frequent Traveller I doubt we'll use the tunnel anymore so will stick with Dover-Calais on the ferry.
