Can anyone advise if there are any insurance companies that will provide European travel insurance for people aged 71 and above. Looking for multi travel policy with 60 day per trip cover and so far they seem to be restricting travel to 35 days per trip.
Thank you 😊

Thanks, we have safeguard for the motorhome and European breakdown but I didn't know that they did health cover as well. I will check them out. Thank you,

We have the CMC Red Pennant multi-trip option. From memory the limit is 56 days per trip which is near enough 60. It isn't cheap but it includes both medical and MH breakdown cover including repatriation if the vehicle was written-off. They will also repatriate our dog with us!

I have been asking myself if i need high cost cover as you could question what you get for health cover... repatriation yes, not sure what else as our EHIC cards allow us treatment in EU hospitals... Very happy to be corrected on why we need it....

The EHIC only covers up to a certain amount, or at least that was how it was before Brexit. Before Brexit under the old EHIC card system, my husband was taken to a French hospital after he fainted. The hospital ran numerous tests to check him out thoroughly before releasing him and kept him in overnight. So when we received the hospital release papers and went down to the billing department, we had to show them the EHIC card, which they noted, and then we paid the difference which was about £180 if I remember correctly. When we returned home we were able to claim for the amount we had paid the hospital. On this occasion it wasn't a huge amount of money but it could have been so much more expensive if it had turned out that there was something more seriously wrong with him. So, yes, I think it is definitely worth paying for health cover when travelling abroad.
As an aside, the French hospital at Brive was absolutely wonderful. They were very thorough.

But what ages and conditions? Not prying personally but the cost means little without this. We have two cars and a motorhome on LV multicover but reading some comments here about the high cost of LV for oldsters. We aren't old but I'll be 79 on my trip next month.

A very good point,a lot of insurance /recovery wont take dogs ,this is the only reason i have red pennant.

I've just paid £411.0 for 106 day multi trip with Nationwide Flexi Plus. This covers both my wife and myself includes an age extention as I'm over 70 and also my medical history. Over the many years I've been doing motorhoming I've looked st loads and loads of insurance polices and they all say in the small print to use your EHIC in an emergency (fair enough I suppose) and the prices were sky high. The cheapest around £800.00 going up to £6000.0 for the same cover. It's a racket.

After an hour of getting quotes I'm finding that most limit to 31 days as I will be 79 during the trip. Staysure has so far come in cheapest at £327, but 31 days is no good for us. Just have to keep on looking.

Absolutely spot on. With an EHIC you get what the locals get; about 2/3rds of the cost is covered. Most residents in France have an insurance policy to cover the rest either paid for themselves or as part of their salary package. Any serious treatment could cost you a lot of money.

Just had very odd quotes from LV (with existing user discount)
1) Multi trip cover - Essential (31 days max) £387
2) Multi trip cover - Premier (90 days max) £484
3) Single trip cover - Essential ( for 60 days) £879
4) Single trip cover - Premier (for 60 days) £1050

All conditions being the same

We fit the OP's age criteria and have a Staysure annual travel policy, but I think our basic cover (cheap ;) ) only covers maximum 30 days per trip.

Yes, I noticed that too. Normally when you visit a hospital for a pre-arranged appointment you book in at the office first and present your card for the health service and your insurance details but for an emergency perhaps it is done differently. Smaller facilities might not have a treasury. Either way you would be left to pay for the uncovered portion. Maybe for a very large bill they would do the sums upfront. In Portugal 2 years ago with out_of_date EHICS my wife needed a CT scan and they sent the bill to our home address in France some weeks later.
