European breakdown cover for any size motorhome or RV is available from the RAC if you are a memeber of the CC Club.

Cost for 12 months cover for me was £130 including legal aid. I didn't buy home start or return to home..

I think this is an excellent deal and well worth having if only for peace of mind.. :thumb:

I am with safeguard and they have a good Euro wide recovery service, but I am in the RAC as well as the C&CC and do like this belt and braces approach.

The RAC & C&CC deal is good, but remind me, do you have to inform the C&CC and get a number of something similar before they will recover a 3.5+ton Motorhome

Hi Jim

they made no mention of that when I gave my details on the phone but there may well be more information in the documents, if so I'll post details.

Last year i was Insured by RH Specialist Insurance at what I thought a very good premium, policy ran Feb07 to Feb this year with no European or UK recovery for anything over 3.5 ton, so i took out this RAC cover that ScotJim has mentioned, so I was fully covered,
After contacting them to ensure that cover was available for the Moroccan tour I was told told No it wasn't Europe's OK but not north Africa

So the only company I can find To cover Morocco was Safeguard at £210 per year more than RH,s renewal price for this year, But hey they do Morocco and recovery included so I can cancel the RAC recovery policy, Next year I will most likely go back to RH as the premiums are lower and wont need North African cover, Its a great pity they couldn't cover me and just charge extra for it!!
Its a job to find the right cover for any given circumstance at a good rate,

Why cant the Insurers operate like the phone company's and do bolt on extras when needed at a price

We have Red Pennant combined 94 day European breakdown /health ins for both of us at a cost of £233 we had the same one last march. Hubby over 65 so makes it more expensive for the health ins.

ADAC the German motoring organisation offers excellent cover for Europe and all countries (including North Africa) with a Mediterranean coast. My cover cost 79 Euros and cover me everywhere including the UK. You can join at ADAC - Ihr Partner in allen Fragen rund um die Mobilität. (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club) - Mitgliedschaft - Pannenhilfe - Routenplaner - Tests - Versicherungen - Kreditkarten - Finanzierungen - Autovermietung and you should choose ADAC PLUS!

I fail to see how a German company can add a bolt on cover to extend your travel area as suggested to a UK based policy,

Hi Jim,
We had to have our Monaco (Waaay over 7.5 tons) recovered when a wheel bearing failed. I just rang the 0800 number on our card which also states that we're an arrival member. They sent an HGV recovery unit out without bothering with an ordinary patrol vehicle. Just as well that I didn't have to ring C&CC, I've no idea where to find the membership card!

Cheers
Doug

Am I right in thinking that just belonging to the RAC and C&CC isn't quite enough. Dont you have to do something else (call one of them?) to become an Arrival member? Or is it Automatic?

You call Rac to join tell them you want the arrival scheme and they ask for CCC membership Now the down side of this system may be i if you allow your CCC membership t lapse whilst still having the arrival card you may be refused service so best to make standing orders for these commitments

may I champion national breakdown.

£130 I pay for our MH and two cars all included with euro cover. Not sure how long you can be in europe but I think it's 4 months. Not sure if it covers Morroco, but I will be finding out soon as it has become my next place to plan to visit.

7 Years after 5 years with caravan.
We're insured with Comfort who use Norwich Union who use the RAC. We used NU when we had a caravan. No complaints about them at all - sterling service (don't know about Morocco though.)
Last year we used Safeguard who use a group AA setup. No complaints about them either - recovered us from France and from Scotland (again don't know about Morocco).
We always thought the Caravan Club and the C&CC cover worked out quite expensive in comparison with Safeguard and even more so with Comfort.

But of course it's only cheaper if you get the cover you believe you need - which in our case we feel we do.

Just had to use the RAC Arrival (flat tyre in Barcelona) no problem but had to call a French number to arrange assistance. Very good English spoken & couldn't do enough to help us.

Use them when I had the RV, also without any problems.

You could try ADAC, the German group. They didn't ask any questions about size of motorhome and they do provide cover all over Europe and all around the Mediterranean. About 90 Euro a year covers the vehicle, two people and includes emergency retrieval in case of accident or sickness.

Hi the rac arival (as mentiond)covers any size, vehicle but you must also be a ccc member, also covers you for any vehicle not just the m/h. I joined a couple of yrs ago when it was rolled out, also covered the wife but as she is always with me I put my son on instead so we are all covered no matter what we are driving:thumb::thumb:

edit forgot to say I made son a member of ccc instead of the wife as well
