Why are Euro touring caravans banned on some UK sites because they have a right hand side hab door and do the same sites apply this rule to Motorhomes with the hab door on the right please?

We have never been banned but some sites have been grumpy with us.

Had a funny experience in Seville. Owner grumbled about UK vans and doors and then I pointed out that ours was a German van with an offside door just like the Spanish ones.
It's not just a UK thing.

Yes they do.
Site at Burnham on sea refuses any with european door. Says it is fire safety then allows tents to pitch between vans so they can't be moved anyway.

I have been told on arrival at a site that I have to park with the doors the same way as uk vans.
We “ discuss “ it and we agreed we would change our booking to one night only.
To be honest I can see the problem with doors the euro side on uk sites. And there are sites we have been asked to comply , if the pitch is decent and you are not forced onto a given peg on pitch which further reduces your available pitch area for you then I might be ok about it.

There are a few sites with this rule and Won’t go there again.

Tehre are a few sites I go that ask if "continental" and one in particular when I get the all of us "leppers" are in the same block.
others just ask to reverse or go forward in.

Never been turned away, and doesnt worry me

I just thought it was a privacy thing...then I was told its a fire safety thing so when the FB do have to turn up, the automatcally know which way all entrances are in, even in thick smoke.
true ???? dunno

What does it matter which way round your park, either go forward on to the pitch or reverse surely that's your decision.

Sometimes it's wardens enjoying their sense of power, but more often it's the insurance rules. On one site on Hayling Island, I refused to turn around on boggy ground because I wanted the drive wheels nearer the tarmac, warden just shrugged. Another time in South Devon, the owner arrived home from work and made the van opposite move a matter of inches, having set up an awning tent etc. It was a small rally, the organisers protested on the grounds that there was no one present to advise when we all arrived. He said it's my grounds and I make the rules. Besides, you're paying reduced rates. Of course, we never went back there.
Then you compare with French Aires where on occasions we've found our neighbours so close you could barely open the door. No insurance problems there. Unless there's a fire!!

It’s complete bollx,
I have seen both a caravan and a motorhome on fire .
You will if you are lucky have time to get out.
There is no way anyone is going back in it’s a fearsome blaze and is uncontrollable very quickly.

I get it that if a caravan hitch is forward then surrounding vans can be removed by the fire brigade.
But making a motorhome drive onto a pitch so the need to reverse off can in no way be explained as fire safety.

Then my reply would have been" you should have made sure you were here to tell us , but you weren't so **** off or refund everyone in cash +50%"

That is why they ban them. I don't drive in forwards anywhere.

I’ve heard of sites turning away Hobby and Trabant caravans because they are favoured by some of the travelling community!

Haven parks don’t allow “continental” vans on some sites. When I explored this with them it seemed to be more about which side the electric lead plugged in. Some of their site have euro pitches which I think are ok.

Nothing whatsoever to do with Fire safety...if there was a fire then the Fire Service would attend to rescue personal and extinguish the fire, at no time would Fire service personnel tow caravans off pitches, but may ask a site representative to remove some to a place of safety....that's after the awning is removed. Hitchcock and Wheelock and cornersteadies prepared ready to tow...Forget it....
The reason why site wardens don't like RH doors is because it spoils the look and it's less private.....here in Eurozone there is always the question on Aires, drive in or reverse in.....but the compulsory 1 metre between vans must be respected...how else could you open the habitation door...
