Browsing tinternet and saw German papers were claiming they were robbed and cheated again (reference 66 World Cup) in the Women's Euro final.
Not sure if I feel disappointed or reassured.
I thought this attitude was an English/ UK? Press type of response and sort of thought the German attitude is more reasonable.
Perhaps it's just media culture to wind things up and it transcends Countries.
What do Funsters in Germany reckon. What response did you detect in Germany.
Is the media stance the same elsewhere in Europe and similar to our "we was robbered" type head line. ⚽

Possible handball at ~25min that would’ve been a pen but mostly sour grapes

Edit: adding a HB source https://metro.co.uk/2022/08/01/euro-2022-german-media-claim-england-cheated-wembley-final-17101980/

VAR said no penalty.

Am I the only viewer who felt that the German girls were playing dirty during the second half and extra time, intentionally clattering the Lionesses especially our goalie?

I think the argument is over a possible hand ball midway through the first half where - from the still that I have seen (shock horror - I didn't watch the match because I was watching the commonwealth games Rugby Sevens and I don't like football that much) - the ball makes contact with an English player's arm which was outstretched at shoulder height in the goalmouth. Probably a penalty but would it have changed the result - who can tell with over an hours worth of football to play?

Did'nt even know football was on..... Sometimes I think I live of a different planet - and I'm very happy here....

Not a pen. Ref says 'not, var says 'not. End of!
And what about our goal disallowed in 2010 against Germany? Ball crossed the line by clear margin but mustn't harbour grudges, eh? But don't get me started on Marabloodydona and his 'hand of god'!👿

Not at all I agree they were rattled from the outset and their play turned dirty with a very weak ref.

Yes the Germans were definitely trying rough tactics trying to wind our girls up to get bookings, but it didn't work. And it is sour grapes on there part as VAR checked the incident and ruled no hand ball. 🙂👍

Agree with this, think even one of the commentators said she thought the German team had probably been told to do this.

our team did get quite a few yellow cards in the first half, how many of those were due to other side provocation?

I'm surprised anyone missed it. It was wall to wall overkill ;)

Germany don't need to harp back to '66. They've been in the final 7 times winning it 4 times:whistle2:

I thought they got away with far more than our wimmins did that’s for sure.

I believe (take that with a large pinch of salt) that for a hand ball to be awarded it must be deliberate or if accidental must give an advantage. Otherwise the ref can allow play to continue.
If the other stand around shouting foul instead of playing to the whistle, tough.

We're free parked here in lovely Galicia.

Our next door neighbours are a very, young, very pleasant German couple. The guy has just been to collect his girlfriend from her Erasmus stay in Portugal and they've stopped here in their slow drive back home.

Martin brought up the subject of football 🤣🤣. After a bit of banter they were OK about it. They enjoyed watching but their main sport is Handball. It could have been such a different afternoon parked here 🤭.

All because we cheated in 1918 when we invited the yanks to the ball and they gave us a hand 😂

I was on a student exchange with a German family in 66 and watched the match on German TV , they were not that bothered about losing . I was living in Australia when we took the ashes back . that was a way different reaction !! :)

The next they,l be saying is our girls played with bigger balls, when it's just sour grapes really

Nice of the Dutch to get us into shape though . . . :giggle: Guess there'll be a few gongs handed out and the team will be BBC SPOTY and, fantastic though it is, all they've won is the Euros. Once they've won a couple more (World Cup next?) without massive home advantage, then we can see what they're really made of.

I think that it is only the usual German equivalent of the Daily Fail that was screaming unfair. The Germans started dirty with a clear, targeted yellow/red card game plan and we played them at their own game.

And won

Started in first half. Oberdorf, should have got a red in first half when Ellen white got booked for dissent for complaining about her tackle plus the one immediately before.ref was a joke in first half.

As above. I started to think the Ukrainian ref was a putin supporter.
