Short while after a gap of many years.
hi is this oil suitable for a euro6 ducato

Not in my opinion - if your van is still under warranty which I imagine it is then only use the Fiat Selena oil they specify - it can cause warranty problems if you use any other apparently! :)

Always best to keep To exact same oil for top up if you carry a can.

My local Audi main dealer is selling this Quantum Longlife 5-30 fully synthetic at about £17.00 / 5 Ltr.
See spec.
It'll do for me.

My Euro 6 Fiat is about a year old and I contacted Fiat in Milan regarding the right specification Oil, my handbook was not crystal clear. The story is that Euro 6 engines have specific demands. As a result the safest route to maintain the warranty is to go to a Fiat dealer, who will look up your particular vehicle and provide the appropriate oil. In my case it was not particularly expensive and I have receipt in case of future warranty issues. Again I'm told that if your engine does have a catastrophic failure the first thing they do is analysis the engine oil ??
In 6000 miles my engine has used about 1/3rd litre, mostly in the first 2000 miles.
I was also told that Fiat dealerships hold some 25 different oil specs (all Fina) and that it is very expensive for oil suppliers to get their oil officially certified by Fiat. Smaller suppliers may be unlikely to have "officially" approved oil for each particular specification. You pays your money and you takes your choice:(

hi thanks this is why i asked the question my handbook page 329 quotes selina 0/30 wr forward acea2spec 9.55535-s1. There are others, my local fiat dealer said any oil of the same spec will be ok to use i was wondering what other owners were using

@Waveski
FIAT are only too keen to say “it will invalidate your warranty”.

FIAT Milan, in reply to an e-mail enquiry re reversing sensors told me that if anyone other than FIAT fitted a towbar to my new m/h it would invalidate my warranty.

Taking legal advice I was assured that, in legal terminology, that “was pure bollocks”. If the tow bar is type approved and a type approved electric kit is fitted there is no problem in legal terms. That is what type approval is about.

Likewise, I would imagine but I’m not certain, that if an equivalent spec oil is used they will not be able to invalidate a warranty. The use of a mineral oil rather than fully synthetic would be another matter.

Hi Maison, I totally agree with your post. My only real point is that I have done everything possible to ensure that FIAT would not have any basis for any argument in the event a possible future warranty issue and that FIAT/FINA oil is not particularly expensive.
I also contacted Castrol technical department at the time, they could not recommend a suitable approved oil........that made me a little uneasy!

As an aside, I also spoke with FIAT regarding the warranty impact of fitting hydraulic suspension parts. Their response was that any original parts directly affected would not be covered under warranty but other things would be.....that would be a bit of minefield!
You make a good point on tow bars, mine is retro fitted by an"independent" specialist but I did insist on them using a FIAT approved wiring kit, at extra cost; their basic fit would have been using scotch locks and their own wiring kit!

Whoops, Sorry Maison the above reply has come out rather wrong due to my lack of computing skills. I did not mean to modify you comment but add my reponse separately. Sorry but I hope it all makes sense?

I don’t think your listening to the replies properly? Both myself and @Waveski have spelt it out for you - however go and put an equivalent one in and hope you don’t get warranty problems eh! for the sake of a few quid more - your only looking at top up oil aren’t you? :)

ok the van is 9 months old i have owned it for 3 months i know the previous owner topped the oil up with the wrong oil so i will do an oil and filter change before i use it. As you probably know the oil and filter dont need changing for 2 years or 30000 miles both of which are nowhere near, the fiat professional that changed the egr pipe do not use the oil as stated in the handbook but they would not tell me who supplied it hence the question

Umm - that Fiat professional sounds a bit dodgy - and we are supposed to rely on them for the proper advice!

I agree - change the oil and filter but as others have said here, get them to look up your specific oil and filter from your chassis number - some will sell you the oil loose in your own container from their bulk tanks which works out 50% cheaper that way. A receipt for the correct oil and filter will safeguard you in any future warranty event.

I’m Euro 5 and changed both oil and filter at 10,000 miles - I would have preferred to do it at 6,000 really but I was away travelling on mainland Europe. My service doc says first change at 16,000.

I hope you Enjoy your new HM - :)

Is your vehicle still within warranty?:)
Bought new in July. I went for the 95535.ds1 spec. Couldn’t find another oil with the same spec. Perhaps others have. Having spent so much on the Moho, I decided that the price of the oil was worth it. My choice. Mike

Yes - Millers oils have a good reputation - that oil maybe far superior or just better than the Selena - however the only reason i’ve stuck to Selena is purely the warranty issue - they would sample that oil in the event of a serious engine failure to avoid paying out - don’t you think? :)

This is what should be used or your warranty could be affected.

Main dealer price is actually very reasonable, i got a 2l tin for £24

Jesus man, £12/litre. Liquid Gold?.. Mine is out of warranty (by a long way!) and Euro5. So I got Total QUARTZ 9000 5W-40 5 Litre Can for 25Quid. Meets the spec; or so I`m told.

Don`t the manufacturers and Oil co`s see us coming!

Just out of interest how many members have had a catastrophic failure of their Euro 4, 5 or 6 engine that has been attributed to doggy oil?

Hi adrkjr, please take this in the right spirit but I reckon if you put doggy oil in the engine it’s going to run a bit ruff ruff. Guess I’m in the dog house now lol.
