All the gear, and no idea!
Hi does anyone have an idea when the little darlings are back at school after the summer hols? Would I be safe going to the mosel for a week or so around 25/26 August?

German school holidays vary between North and South one lot has July and the other August and swaps around the following year its something like that.
You need to do a bit of Googling.

It will vary by region but late August is quiet in France as most / all schools are back then. German schools return from August to mid-September - but this also varies by district.

Just had a look at French hols as you were typing, it seems they’re all back 31/8 and most German schools 10/9
So Lenny HB I might have to give France a go:doh:

The French school holiday system is split by region and we have found that campsites quieten down a lot by the middle of August .... and start shutting by early September as the number of tourists drops so much in August.

Many German schools are back before your dates. https://www.holidays-info.com/germany/school-holidays/2022/

I would suggest that you would be fine - based on my experiences of France but I do not have much experience of German campsites.

France is Motorhome heaven but is getting a bit expensive. Not too bad if you do most of your shopping in Lidl or Aldi & eat out lunchtime. Often with restaurants the same meal in the evening is nearly twice the price.

French holidays tend to end the week with Assumption day 15th August. Good reason for it as that's when the weather changes according to the French.

Or according to the RC church?

Might be - but anyway 14 Aug is the Fete de St Jean and it's a Bank Holiday so a bit like July 14 (Bastille Day) depending on where you happen to be, shops/banks/restaurants/council offices/whatever may have decided to shut. That's apart from the general thing in France who'll close for a week or fortnight in July &/or August cos of course - they and their staff also want a summer holiday!

But it is not only knowing when the school holidays are but also where the parents are going to take the little ......

Good Lord!

They might be noisy as they tend to be when having the best time ever, but they won’t hurt you. :)

Not hurt , but disturb our peace and quiet, enjoyment, if not kicking their football studded with grit against our MH walls, or worse, at our outside table knocking it over, spilling the wine and ruining dinner.

Viva off-grid camping!

You must have been to some rough places.... We've not experienced anything like that in Europe.

We were in Croatia one year in early September. There were loads of German and Italian kid. Apparently kids from the German Bavarian region don't go back until around the 12th September, the same for Italian kids. We don't mind the kids but our dog hates the bikes , scooters and roller blades.

Even in dear old Blighty they have different holiday with Scotland summer holidays 3week before England
